- my wife says "get it.. but you'll grow tired of it in a year and sell it"

Why I want it?

- I like it.
Look at it as an investment.

Don't worry about what other people think. Your money your choice.

The Sub, like most Rolexes are not really flamboyant.

50 a milestone. I would not have reservations.

BTW - while I appreciate others feelings, a best friend would think no less of you if you purchased a Rolex. Just don't flaunt it. You don't seem the type that would any way.

Good luck.

"Opinions are like wrist watches...everyone's watch shows a different time from others, but everyone believes that their time is correct."
I agree with this! Except about the happy bit. Trust me it could give you joy, satisfaction and pride of ownership but it will not add one bit to your overall happiness.

Timepieces are like an ART and value is base on the buyer. It would be great if you own a Rolex once you make the leap then you will understand its value. I was once in your shoes. As long as your financials are in place I do not see why you cannot buy a Rolex. Wear it in good health once you buy it. You only live once go for it!!!

I understand the dilemma.
If you want the watch for you and you don't care what others think then just tell your dad and friend without a job and wife and everyone else... that it's a 20$ knockoff u bought from a guy who was selling them in the subway. People that don't know the brand won't know it's real and u will have yours.
Simple. Just make sure u hide the box and papers so your wife won't find em ;)

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Rolex worth a lot as long as I want it I really don't care what anyone thinks long as it makes me happy, as we all know the heart wants what it wants.

I look at some of the things members of this forum buy and give pause for a mega second and then think, GOOD FOR THEM, THEY CAN APPRECIATE THE BEST THAT HUMANKIND CAN PROVIDE! Why else would someone pay for a Patek, a Ferrari, $50 a pound coffee, expensive cigars, or custom suits? Of course there those that buy things to show wealth or taste for the sake of others, but there is a certain child-like enthusiasm on this site that shows personal growth and love for well-made objects.

The mere fact that you’re asking yourself if you’re a jerk is a sign that you’re most certainly not. Go for it. Don’t feel guilty for your success—help as many as you can along the way!
