What's worse, watch envy or wife envy?

Cheers

I think both made the "Do Not Do" a few thousand years ago, along with 8 other guidelines...

Great watch, and awesome gift.

One question- How did your wife get her hands on 20 grand without you knowing? LOL

That's a really great story, one of the best shared on this forum. That's sums up the magic that is Patek....

Many years ago, my wife and I were touring some out of town friends around NYC. We went into the Tiffany store (which I'd never have done) and ended up at the Patek Philippe boutique (really more of a museum) on the second floor. Among all the elaborate beauties, I was struck by a very simple white gold 5196. My wife encouraged me to try it on, and we had a nice long conversation with the sales associate, who after all was said and done, wrote down the particulars on Tiffany card. Our friends thought we were nuts for even talking about such a purchase, and i found it slightly embarrassing. My wife made a big point of taking the card and folding it once in half, and putting it in her purse.

She said very confidently, "I love that watch, it's much more elegant than the big chunky ones you usually wear (ouch). You shouldn't have it now, but I'll buy it for you for your 40th birthday." Then we went to dinner and I mostly forgot all about it for years and years (although who can ever really forget a watch like that?).

A couple days ago, I turned 40. My wife threw me a party the day after my birthday, but the night of my actual birthday, we went out to a little restaurant on the UES. It was pouring rain. Once we had ordered, she put a little bag on the table, and in the bag was this:

I was completely stunned. "Why are you making that face? I always do what I say I'm going to do," she said, at which point she pulled out the original paper the sales associate from Tiffany had given her noting the model and price, and put it on the table.

What a watch, what a wife, what a life.
Already commented on this; but just read the opening again.

This is my favourite post that I have seen so far on this forum;
It's an awesome story, you have one special wife...
Love it..

Congratulations! There is not much left for me to say, if toomuchtalk/Steve gives the story his stamp of approval as his favorite!

You are indeed a lucky man!
