Multiple waiting lists or Not?

I want to buy a 5711 1A 011 (white) from an AD... This will be my first Patek, so I don't have a relationship with an AD. Are there any cons for getting on multiple waiting lists?

No its the smart thing to do. When I was looking for a limited hard to get piece I put my name in lists all over europe. Italy called first so off I went to italy to buy my piece.

Not with a piece like the 5711. Provided there are no deposits required or fully refundable of course.

Can't think of any, if one of them calls you after you got one, you can say no the next guy on the list will be very happy to get it

Depends if you are relationship building or one off purchase?

I was able to get on a few waiting lists for the 5711 blue dial. Wait time 1-2 years. Crazy!

No harm getting on multiple lists for a 5711. If you turn down the offer the AD can easily sell it to the next person on the list.

In the UK it is different for pieces like 5131 as the AD need to submit the names to Rhone UK and they would get to know if someone is on multiple lists. In such situations the customer would be asked to choose the AD

I am on two lists in the US. Should I try to get on a list in other countries?

I personally would not waste the time trying to get on lists outside the US unless you have a friend who happens to live in that country who can vouch for you and help make an introduction. Also many ADs will not ship international so if by some chance you were able to procure one overseas you would more than likely have to pickup in person which is obviously an additional cost. Keep calling US ADs and get on a few more and just be patient. Good Luck and Congrats in Advance!

Definitely call around and get on multiple lists, I bet you'll get one sooner than you think

A year seems crazy for white. If you pound the phones you'll get what you seek quickly (less quickly for blue)

Have you called all the ADs in the U.S.? If not, do so because more than likely one or more of them will have a white dial 5711 in stock.

If by chance nobody has one, give your info to as many ADs that are willing to take it and you'll probably have one in 3-4 weeks.

Best of luck :)

Agreed. Before putting in an order, try calling every AD in the US (assuming you're in Tennessee).

Well... I called two more AD's last Tuesday for a total of 4 dealers contacted. The 4th dealer actually put me on hold while they checked stock, but ended up not having it. The 3rd called Friday (3 days after getting 'on their list') to tell me the watch came in as a stock piece. It shipped today and I'll get it tomorrow.

So a wait of about 2 weeks. Not bad.

My wife just signed for the box at the house. I'm hoping it fits without sizing... I'm not sure of my wrist measurement, but I wear my Rolex GMT Master 2 shortened only by folding under the link into the clasp.

I got home and opened it! I've never seen a 5711 in person, so everything is new and different. The clasp is very hard to open. (I even stopped and searched the net to see If I was opening it correctly) Is that normal? The fit is pretty good, but I may need a link taken out.

The outer cardboard Patek box was damaged in shipping. What should I expect from the AD? A replacement box??

Clasp does suck and you get used to it, but at least it is almost impossible to steal without you knowing, as some guys are very good. Anyways congrats looks great

Why does the clasp suck? Just that it's hard to open? It seems full proof.

Same question as above :)

The clasp can feel weird in the beginning. Be sure to "click" it when you put it on, I was sloppy doing this a few times and it almost fell off.

Looks great! With time, you'll come to appreciate how sleek the clasp is
