Interesting Gift
So my father is floating around Paris a few months ago and decided to look for a neat "stocking stuffer" if you will. He went to the Montblanc boutique and tried to convince the sales lady to sell him one of the display trays. She declined. Having little funds (his wife's grandmother paid to the trip) he can't buy me a new Montblanc so he goes down the road to a trinket shop. While there he relates the Montblanc experience to the proprietor. She says "I have just the thing" and comes out with this. It's supposed to be early 19th century but I'm not so sure it's that old but it is kinda neat non the less. Case is sterling and supposedly what's let of the original pencil.

That is pretty cool. Is the pencil the same size as a carpenters pencil? You can pick up your refills and sharpener at Lowe's!!

Cool but it certainly defeats the whole purpose of a carpenters pencil. If you put that down it might not roll away but may well take wing.

Not quite. It's a fair bit smaller. At the moment this is my carpenter pencil and I work alone so no one best touch it!

I apologize if my response came across as flippant. I just found funny the reference to "taking wings" made by Jim.
Yours is a beautiful present from your father, which I'm sure you'll cherish forever. I certainly would. Congratulations. |

Certainly no need for apologies sir and I was being jovial as well. My wife, friends, employees, and customers all get off on moving my stuff just to see how long it takes for me to notice.

That is a really cool pencil holder! I would almost be afraid to use it. I usually end up throwing my tools around either out of frustration or expediency

Thank you sir and my estimation of its age is far more in line with yours. I had figured mid 1880s to 1920 based on manufacturing techniques, enamel on the pencil, etc.
