Your First Watch Throwback
Does anyone still have their first special watch? Post a wrist shot and a brief story!
This is my Museum Dial Movado that my wife bought me when we were first going out. Before this, I was never really into watches on any level other than something to have for an outfit. And even then, I was just buying Kenneth Cole watches which all broke on me in odd ways. I remember one time, I held the elevator for a gentleman and the doors crushed my wrist and watch. However, I did always aspire to own a Movado since I was a child, falling in love with their famous and classic Museum dial. It took a girlfriend to buy it for me because I guess I just wasn't man enough to buy it on my own. After she presented it to me, I cried like a baby, gave her a kiss, and wore it to bed with me every night. Fast forward to today, I have since swapped the original strap with a Hodinkee brown leather strap. I have kept this watch for 7 years and still wear it occasionally. This will be the first watch I give to my child when the time comes. It would be another year or two before I started even getting into Rolex's but I am afraid that is a totally different story and the catalyst to a crazy journey these last few years both professionally and personally. Perhaps another time... Vado.jpg |

My first real watch was the one my girlfriend, now wife, bought me in 1991.
Floored me, started me on the path of loving Chronographs, and led me to the Daytona, was back in the early 90's the first time I saw a Daytona and I choked when I saw the $6,000 price tag. So this is my "first" real watch, still have all box's, leather pouch, papers, links, receipts. Seiko service in unbelievable, sent it in a year or so ago to Seiko SC in Toronto, they sent it to Japan, they completely overhauled the watch, replaced parts, sent a note that they loved seeing such a rare watch in working order, and delivered it back in 90 days with a whopping cost of $110.00 Cdn. My Seiko 7T59 series chronograph - the first analogue to record 1/100 sec intervals purchased in 1991 - still works perfectly and I still absolutely love this watch. |
