Work out your personal style

Basically I just put up a post on another thread which got me thinking it deserves a thread on its own.

In my collection I own the DaytonaC, SubC and Batman, I purchased all these out of hype for the 'Professional Rolex'

Now I love my white face Daytona, BUT after using a 36mm watch for a few days, my eyes and hands began to love this size. It feels natural and part of my hand rather than a big block of circle steel resting on it.

I absolutely love the 36mm size, I have really adjusted to it, I used to take my SubC / DaytonaC off, during activities like typing, writing, or prolonged daily use, as it does feel heavy and tiring, more so the SubC than the DaytonaC tbh. The DaytonaC has a way of disappearing on the wrist which is nice.

But 36mm is by far the comfiest, and my eyes now prefer the small size of the watch face and I think 39/40mm is too big! I don't need to take it off until the very end of the day, and thats only because im not a watch sleeper wearer person.

Income my new DJ36mm with the smooth bezel, blue dial and jubilee bracelet, this watch leaves me speechless, the strap is super comfortable, the watch face is small, the lugs are cute and polished, the dial is SUPER CLEAN and the watch also has a date! What more can a guy want on his wrist.

The Rolex crown at 12 and the thin hands really clean up this watch, my first watch was a DaytonaC, and then I got the SubC a few years later, and I never appreciated the Rolex crown at 12 and the thin hands until I wore the SubC daily for a few months and was stuck with large DOTS as hour markers that hideous arrow and 12 and those horrid Mercedes Hands. I know its not a dress watch its for sport, but the hype didn't allow me to realise that until I had worn it for a while and had something to compare it to.

I bought the SubC out of hype and now I know my personal taste. If the DJ36mm is the only watch left in my collection, I would be more happy never have another watch.

So moral of the story is, work out what your personal style actually is, you may think you want a Pepsi, Sub, Daytona, Explorer 2, Skydweller out of hype from your friends / family / social media, but I would go in and try these smaller watches on for size and comfort, you never know, it could be your new forever daily!

I really think Rolex need to go back to 36-37mm, imagine the DaytonaC as a cute little 36mm watch! The wide ceramic bezel would look a lot nicer if it was thin/narrow.

IF, and that's a big if, I buy a third Rolex, it will be this one. Love the blue dial just wish I hadn't bought the OP blue and waited for a DJ.

I own an Datejust 36mm 116201 and agree it is a very comfortable size and easily versatile enough for a one and only.

I don't see a 37mm Daytona coming along anytime soon. Right now you can buy a 37mm Yacht Master though.

Im not totally with you but i get it. Not saying your DJ36 is less of a piece but it's true sometimes less is more. I have a pretty decent SS Rolex collection but always seem to gravitate to my DJ41 more than any other.

My collection ranges from 34-42mm. The 34mm has been getting most of the time, lately.

I'm a big fan of the 36mm DJ, but I think the Daytona is already at a very good size.

Agree with your post.

The problem is that the watch community is an echo chamber where certain watches gets so amplified out of proportion that it blinds everyone.

Don't lust after a white Daytona, a Hulk, and a Batgirl just because that's what everybody else wants. Take your time and develop your own taste.

Many 36mm watches have been designed. Not many have been designed well with function in mind. The 36mm DJ is what I’d call a perfect standard watch. It’s weight and proportions become a part of the wrist. And that’s what you want when you wear a watch.

She’s not a QS or sapphire glass but she’s comfy and accurate.

Beautiful! Absolutely LOVE that dial ... it's reminiscent of the Plat. DD.

Beautiful DJ

You are the first on TRF to admit that you were caught in the hype

NEVER EVER chase the hype.

Thats a lesson learnt long long time ago even before all this craze. There would be literally 1000s of guys on here that bought a LV, BLNR, Daytona purely for the hype.

Take the Hulk for example. Nothing has changed with that watch except pure hype. Couldnt sell the damn things to anyone and was probably the most hated Rolex at the time. Now its one of the most hyped pieces. LOL
