The 15450 resale market is insane. When will prospective buyers get a relief?

Looking to buy a new 15450 silver dial. Resale prices currently in the mid 20s! A bit excessive for a stainless steel watch. I know the discontinuation is driving the prices higher, but realistically - how much longer do you think resale prices will stay at these levels?

A few more grand (~30k) and I could buy a new Gold Rolex DayDate.

Congrats to those owners of this now-absolute gem.

Sadly I don’t see any relief in the near future. It’s highly unlikely that prices on hot stainless steel models will ever drop back to msrp or below.

15450 is discontinued? Didn't realize this.

Either way, they're trading anywhere from $16-19k on Chrono24 and those are often times higher than what they actually sell for, so not sure where you're getting mid 20's from. Blue dial is 22-24K.

I remember they could not give these away at my AD and they were selling them for 12K lol

I would prefer the DD40 in this instance but I would not laugh off the notion of the 15450 being the choice among the two.

You should go for an in production dial. I would spend an afternoon at the NYC boutique and shoot for retail on rhodium dial.

I mean, 5711s are being listed for $70k. Not comparing the watches but I think we’re a little past mid 20s being “excessive for a steel watch”...

that is why i laughed a bit at people saying the bpxhodinkee watch was overpriced at 9900. Jack squat available under 20k let alone 10k that is interesting these days.

Yep, I definitely didn’t think the bpxhodinkee is overpriced at all.. seems reasonable for a pretty interesting watch

To the OP, the increase in price in the secondary market is all driven by the craze around popular steel sports watches.. the 15202 was affected by the 5711, and in turn of the 15202 being “hyped”, the 15400, 15300, 15450 are all reaping the benefits in the secondary market as well..

i think i generally agree. outside of a few exceptions (most notably seiko, grand seiko and the occasional speedmaster) it’s slim pickings. agree i didn’t think the BP hodinkee diver was overpriced for what it is.

Agree on seiko and omega they are somehow completely left out of this. Imagine the speedmaster market price is 1/20th the 5711

What a world we are in.

I know the 15400 silver dial was discontinued, but where is the source that says the 15450 was discontinued? The entire premise of the thread maybe faulty. Why not go to a boutique and try and get allocated in 2020 (since 2019 allocations are long gone).

The 15450 isn’t discontinued (silver included), that’s for sure.

Although with the discontinuation of the 15400 and introduction of the new basement movement to replace the 3120, I wouldn’t be surprised if the 15450 is discontinued in the new year..

I think you might want to recheck your thread title...the model reference number is incorrect. What you meant was the 15400 I guess. LOL

When the 450 hits mid 20s too then things will really be going crazy.

Nope, not gonna happen, unless AP came up with new movement. 15500 uses the 11.59 movement hence it's larger case compare to 15400.

And that new movement won't fit the 15450 case.

I think 15450 is a female's watch which males started focusing on due to lack of availability of male models.

If a pure 37mm then maybe but as these wear like 39mm they are unisex, like a Daytona.

this is silly—the huge watch trend is a pretty recent thing and lots of men prefer a smaller watch than a 41mm that fits like 43. the 15450 BARELY wears smaller than most 39mm watches (and wears much larger than a 36mm datejust/daydate) and the 15400/15500 wears far too large for a lot of wrists.

as compared to the 15400 a 15450 case also fits the movement much better.

Totally agree with this sentiment.
Good to know I'm not the only one who feels that this bubble is stretched a bit tight already on ALL brands.

I had 2 AP boutiques tell me separately that the 15450st grey dial is being discontinued. Not sure if that’s the case for other references. HQ Milton has one fully stickered right now. I just picked up a blue dial and for small wrists it’s a winner according to Mr. Kitty.

I know this thread was with regard to 15400. But on topic of 15450 - Takuya just had a white dial that just sold. Listed for $17.4k
