Crazy to spend 15K-18K on 16610LV?

After the new LV release last year, the price on 5-digit Kermit seems to be increasing again. I think the Z,M,V serials with full-set go up to 18K now. Am I too crazy to pull the trigger knowing that the price has tripled from MSRP? Do you guys think it's worth it if you like the watch?

This is not a logical hobby for most.

If you like the watch, purchase it. But if you’re looking at it only as a potential investment, I would move along.

Crazy? Yes. Worth it: very subjective, for me definitely not. If I ever were to spend that much money on a watch, it would be a high-horology one, rather that a Sub

If you have to ask, you probably want to put the safety back on, rather than pulling that trigger. Your subconscious is likely trying to tell you something.

What a discontinued icon is worth to me isn't applicable to you. It's your choice and it sounds that like, for the time being at least, you have already made it.

to me personally, yes it's crazy. if prices never become reasonable again, i will never buy many watch brands again - done. i have 12 decent pieces i could live with luckily.

but knowing that prices have done what they have done i am not comfortable buying during the hype.

but you have to ask yourself if you are comfortable. prices won't be dropping in the foreseeable future and may rise some more, so if you have the $$ and want the watch, buy with no regrets my friend.

Original MSRP has absolutely no relevance it's been discontinued well over a decade.

If you like it... buy it.

If the last few years are any indication. When there is a new release it inevitably seems to draws fresh attention to the older versions (Pepsi, Daytona, etc) which generally leads to higher prices.

The only exception I can think of in recent times is the orange hand explorer. Never really saw much renewed interest in the original.

This. Similar to other thread with BLNR, MSRP is completely irrelevant. It is all about whether 1. you like the watch and want it and 2. your expectations about making or losing money in case of selling it down the line.

The second point no one knows but if past is any indication, I suspect you will do fine.

Sometimes, you have to even pay tomorrow’s price today. In other words, the market value is the market value, and that market value very well could be higher soon. Original MSRP is a mere historical footnote. If you like the watch, and everything checks out, I’d pull the trigger and not worry about paying triple of original MSRP of a discontinued reference.

If you bought it at 18k today, and then tomorrow it tanks to 9k ... Would it affect your enjoyment of it? If the answer is yes, then maybe it's not the watch for you.

Not sure if price of the old Kermit and also Hulk continue on the rise. A few months earlier right after the launch of the new Kermit perhaps, but seems price have since then plateaued and slightly fell back. Greys in my area now ask less for their stock compared with 2 months ago.

+1. I walked passed a pawnshop the other day that displayed a 16750 for 15k. That definitely did not look like a 15k watch.

Many of us have owned the LVC and just couldn’t bond with it. (Some of us have owned it more than once and still let it go.).
Considering we paid $8.5k for a new one about 3 years ago and still didn’t bond with it enough to keep should tell you it’s all about the watch and has nothing to do with and “investment” nonsense. Would I buy the LVC again at $8.5k? Heck no because the watch doesn’t work for me. Slapping a $18k price tag on it doesn’t change anything. The take away everyone that has owned this watch has said: “It’s a green Sub. You really got to love the color green. “

Was one of my favourite watches from photos - was on the list at the AD.

Completely underwhelmed trying one on in the summer of 2020. Had the grey dealer pull three watches for me to look at 16710 (very used), 16570 (serviced/polished) and the 116610LV. I was there for a good 30 minutes and probably looked at the Hulk for 30 seconds. Changed my wish-list at AD. This is just one opinion though..

For an out of production watch I don’t think it’s crazy.
I recently bought a 2004 16710 for £11k...more than triple the MSRP.
But this was irrelevant to me since it has always been a grail of mine and will be a keeper.

Having it on my wrist, the enjoyment I get from it makes me totally forget the “crazy” price I paid for it.

I doubt the LV would get any cheaper, and it is only going to get more scarce, so if you like the watch and can afford it, buy it and enjoy!

If you love the watch and want to keep it, then do it.

If you are doing it as investment, no one knows where this market will go. Just don't get caught holding the bag!

Look at regular 5 digit 16610 black subs with box and papers. Can't find any cheaper than $9500. 7 months ago they were at $7500

Another value thread, love it, I'm bored so I will bite.

Crazy, yep. I own one and the price is so crazy and stupid I have considered selling mine and taking the profit. Problem is only the grays are getting those retails and they don't want to pay sh&t for the watch but they sure will sell for those prices you talk about.

If I had the posts and the "references" I would sell mine in a heart beat. I love the watch, I wear it the most in my rotation. Having said that it is NOT worth $18K IMO.
