Although my Redwings and Wolverines serve me well had I known in the beginning more of what all was available I'm pretty sure I would have made other choices. However part of the journey was also figuring out what worked best for me. As a result however I try to look longer and harder before committing to other purchases as a result. I'm willing to spend a bit more for what I consider what is worth it to me. To be honest if I were to even consider a new boot in this same style I would get another pair from Viberg. But as it stands I have no desire to get another pair.
Haha I feel you

I lusted after a pair of Crockett and Jones Islay for the longest time, then after I got them, wore them like 3 times in a year and realized they just didn’t go with my style whatsoever.

See, and that very pair is one of my favorites.

Ranks a bit lower than my Galways, but it's certainly one of my favorites even if it's a Shortwing.

I love the Heritage line. I have the now discontinued 899, Iron Ranger (8111), Weekender Oxford (3033) and just ordered 877s yesterday. After break in, they have been the most comfortable shoes I've ever had. My Iron Rangers are honestly more comfortable than my running shoes. The first 2 weeks though...

Haha too funny! Yeah they look incredible in pictures and are superb quality, but the country grain/style just didn’t go with my wardrobe whatsoever as it’s a bit more Italian sleek for the most part. I wanted to love them so much though

I love C&J as a happy medium between price/quality though. Every pair of shoes I’ve gotten from them, whether benchgrade or handgrade has always made me satisfied from a ‘bang for your buck’ perspective

Personally I like scotch grain because it's a good leather for inclement weather. Cromexcel being a bit better and Zugg being the best that I am aware of.

I would agree with you on your assessment of Crockett and Jones although I did find Edward Green and Gaziano Girling Lasts to be a better fit for me.

Definitely a Red Wing fan. Seemed to take forever to figure out what the correct size is. The heritage collections runs different than normal shoes and boots. Great products though.

A good number of boots and shoes for that matter do not size the same as sneakers. There are no standard LASTs (shapes and sizes) only those the shoemaker decides to use. However a good number of US Boots you"ll typically purchase will require you to take a 1/2 size down from you brannock size (foot size). Besides just because the length is correct does not mean the shape of the Last will actually fit you well. There really is no substitute for trying any footwear on in person before purchasing. Most also find it best to do so later in the day.

Red Wings are all I've worn for the last 30 years. I also just so happen to work in Red Wing. (Not AT)

I haven’t tried red wings yet. My Wolverine 1000 mile were absolutely the worst boots I’ve ever had and that includes issued boots. They started falling apart on this inside almost immediately. I just received an email that my white boots have shipped today from Baker so I look forward to seeing how those do.

You"ll have to let us know what you think. I came close to getting a pair of Whites myself, but I didn't only because I had so many boots already.

Yes, hopefully you’ll see them soon; who would have thought that rain check on One Genny would have lasted this long.

Interesting. My 1000 Miles are holding up great. I have the Addsion. Not sure if it makes a difference. I also tried on a pair of Red Wing Iron rangers and I felt like my Wolverines were notably higher quality.

I’ve had my Iron Rangers for 10 years or so and they have a lot of miles on them. I sent them in this week to Red Wing for service. Heels are worn way down, soles are so thin the stitching is worn through and they are separating from the uppers, etc. We’ll see how they look when they come back.

I just pulled the trigger on a pair of Red wing Blacksmith boots in Prairie leather. I am pretty excited to see how this leather develops.

Picked up a pair of my first moc toes yesterday. 20% for Black Friday. I originally wanted the Ora Legacy leather, but they didn't have that color in my size, so I decided to get these in Oxblood. Not my usual choice, but I think that I am now glad they didn't have the Ora. The look pretty good, and there are small details that I like about these better - brass eyelets, the collar is a rough suede instead of a very thin leather, there is some contrast with a darker the midsole, and the laces, etc. I hope this leather will look good aged, I can't find photos of this boot aged, but I think because it's fairly new. The Ora Legacy looks amazing aged (but I didn't care for it new - too orange).

This store didn't carry women's boots, so we hit up another nearby Redwing store that did and we picked up some Iron Rangers for my wife.

And now the break in begins..

I have had redwing steel toe for work, they hold up well, but for comfort I swear by my blundstone steel toes. I go through 1 pair of blundstone a year, where as I have never replaced the redwings.
My dayton work boots are also as tough as nails, but the least comfortable, and bloody heavy.

For home I love my wolverine Chelsea, and clarks desert.

I’ve had these for 6 or 7 years. Can’t remember exactly when I got them.

Awaiting a shipment from Nordstrom - needed to exchange some black Iron Rangers I ordered last month for a half size smaller...

For not much more you"ll get a much more attractive looking shoe or boot in my opinion from Rancourt or Oakstreet Bootmakers and you"ll still get that same long lasting performance as well.

I have been in the process of "have less, buy better". I just ordered a pair of Iron Rangers and can't wait to have them as my only pair of boots.

They make a fantastic work boot. I wouldn’t buy anything else.

Give Danner a try. Once I wore Danner I never wore any other brand.

Third generation Red Wing boot owner. I usually get a new pair about every 10 years wether the need to be replaced or not.

I only wear Air Force 1’s or lightweight Sketchers but the weather is different in SA.

Those boots are way too heavy for me to drag around down here.

Nice looking boots though.
