So who here owns a boat...?
See pics of people with there Rolex on their boats over in the Rolex forum section from time to time.
Love to see your boats whoever owns one no matter how big or small! Something of a dream for me to have a nice boat, one day I will! From friends who I often hear it’s a bottomless money pit, which is great if you have that! Did go halves on a rib boat with a friend one time a long time ago which was pretty fun but didn’t get used more than a few times. |

Subscribed. In the market for a pontoon boat for the lake house and have done some research, nearly ready to purchase. Would love to see what others have any feedback provided.

For the amount of use most boats get, it’s better to rent when you need.
From one who has had a few.

Boating in the sound in Seattle. Three knuckleheads. Miracle we survived. Made it out to the big boat in this one and a seal was napping on the back of the big boat. Wish I had pics!
Pontoon boat on Lake Martin AL. Selling it was an awesome day. Never got enough use and the older outboard demanded several hundred in repairs each summer before it could be used. 14’ Boston Whaler on Chilkoot Lake in Haines, AK. (Sold our place there, last fall). Dad had multiple boats in Haines, AK, as well. Charter boats. Dad fished for Halibut with tourists for a couple decades after retiring. He enjoyed them but whether inboard or outboard, they required thousands in work each year. I always enjoyed commercial fishing more than sport fishing, in Alaska. I worked as captain of 2 of these boats in Alaska and as deckhand on many more. Boats are a ton of work for the owner. No more boat ownership for us. We rent when we want one. Hawaii is an awesome experience with a boat rental. You can fish, scuba and last time we dove with dolphins outside the harbor in Kona. FTR, no experience yet; my son is 15. But I’ve heard it said that a Boat is like a grandchild. It’s awesome for a while but wonderful that you can give it back and go home. We are done with boats and will live vicariously through others, or rent. YMMV.

I’ve owned many boats in my day. I even bought a business that dealt in making one off boats. They’re fun, they’re expensive and they will break your heart. That being said some of the best moments of my life were on boats.
As I stated. Many boats, I/O’s, outboards, surface drives, straight inboards. They all have their pros and cons. Pm me if you’re looking at something and I will try to help as much as possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Good grief! 3x350s. I thought it was expensive fixing an OMC 180 lower. Had 2x those on one charter boat. You had some lovely ones!

So who here owns a boat...?
Quote:
Yeah, many I still own however they are all just for fun. I tried making money off boats and it’s not as lucrative as one would think. So now they’re just a big game. I will say most all the time one doesn’t need more than 2 motors. I think the third motor only added like 5 mph and burned an extra 30+ per hour. It sure is a lot of fun pulling up to the sandbar and having a blast with a nice boat, good friends, new friends and a great sound system. (Don’t forget a stocked cooler). 2021 24’ Cobia. Great for running around the bays and in and out the inlet.

You never own a boat, a boat owns you.

Really enjoyed that snorkel spot back in 2011. We have a place on Maui and have never considered renting. Thanks for the idea! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

We paid a tour boat to take us to this one, Cooks Monument, on the Big Island 20 years ago. Paid for a whale watching tour back then, as well. Began renting a boat about 15 years ago. We did whale watching from our own boat, too. Depends. Cant always count on seeing anything, but we like renting a boat. We’ve not been to Maui, but it’s gonna happen. We always end up on the Big Island. Know it well and so much to do.

Used to own a portion of a 300ft commercial motor vessel.
Paid back very well until running into issues, so got out of it. As another poster said above, some of the best moments we’ve had as a family have been on boats of one description or another. This was lake Garda, last summer. For me it’s a warm weather pursuit, so a rental is always part of a good holiday.
