The Sub - in all its guises, it's still the only watch I would collect multiple variations of. It is reasonably common but is no less diminished in my eyes for being so.

my neighbors 1675 Rolex GMT he purchased new in 1968. 1.6 million serial number. Knew that I needed one like it. That watch is what started a lifelong obsession with watches and Rolex Sports Models vintage and modern.

Explorer 2, but don't own one, a friend of my father bought one in 1991, and I have been wanting a Rolex ever since.

SD and still does!

Had switched two of them and then went for the SDDS switched that one for the third SD and it looks like the third one will be for a lifetime.

The SD has the best of the two worlds, not too big not too small, its there on your arm without yelling, it is a great tool that can take anything that you can throw at it from extreme sports to tuxedo!

This is the model that "started it all" - not a Rolex, but still responsible for my WISdom:

10+ years ago my father, internetly challenged, wanted me to find him a watch similar to the one he had seen on his uncles' wrist as a child. He remembered the brand (Omega), the arrow hour hand and the arabic numbers. Searching with these criteria it could only be a Ranchero, a watch impossible to get hold of. I got him a vintage Seamaster with the 12-3-6-9 dial instead, which later turned out to be a bad redial (I've learned a lot since then ).

Anyway, after months of sweep searching the internet for the Omega my watch interest was born. Fascinated with the Ranchero design I came across the Explorer, and I knew I had to have it. After I bought it, I visited my father, he looked at my wrist and said "Hey, you've found it! That's the one I was talking about!". No, not at all, I said, you were talking about a vintage Omega Ranchero, this is a new Rolex Explorer.
"Forget about it, I want that one!" he said.

Needless to say, the redialled Seamaster has not seen much daylight since.

White-dial Air King, previous generation with slimmer lugs.

Although the new GMT is my current "Thinking of you" watch.

In 1989 bought my first DJ TT--then bought a TT Sub with blue face--By 1992 all I wanted was a President--Got it with black diamond dial. Wow that was a long time ago!!!

GMT - Pepsi Bezel. I think I first saw it when I was 15. Eight years later I bought my own.

In 1965 I was in Vietnam. The PX had a 18k Solid gold President that they sold as a reverse auction. Its starting price was ( I think ) was about $10,000 and eventually sold for somewhere in the 5k area. That was ( and is ) a beauty. That started my love of Rolex. It wasn't until many years later that I got my first Rolex...a model 4133 Cellini.

The allure of the Sea Dweller always called to me and after so many years, I finally got one! Permanent keeper in my modest collection.

The SD pretty much started my fascination with wristwatches. I collected lesser watches for 10 yrs before I bought my SD brand new.

The Rolex that started it all was the SS Daytona for me.
I use to work with a collegue that had 3 -4 Rolexes.
Typically he would wear the datejust to work... but one day he wore the Daytona. I think it might had been a Zenith. I saw it and asked him about it.
He gave me a quick lesson on the watch, and from there I was hooked. Started looking for one in the stores since 2004. It would take me about 5 years to finally locate one in a store.

Sub. Never expected to get a vintage, but that was the first one that was in reach of my limited $$ at the time.
Searched for 10 years, and bought alot of crappy knockoffs and look-a-likes to try and stave off the longing, but it never worked.
Here is the result:

Great thread

I spotted a black face Explorer II in an edition of Esquire magazine whilst onboard a ship back in the late 80's. I kept looking at that advert throughout that particular trip with real lust.

I so wanted that watch!

When I got back to the UK I rang around a few AD's and I couldn't source one straight away and that made me want it even more!

It took me about a year to finally get one on my wrist and I haven't looked back since.
