Aruba - pt.1

We were supposed to visit Aruba in April for my wife's birthday, which instead turned into a celebration for my birthday in November due to COVID.

Stayed at the Renaissance and enjoyed their private island for 4 days. Just a tip - you can visit the island for $125 / person if you're not staying at the hotel (it is capped though), but why spend so much when you can just get a room for around $300 and be able to visit 2 days per nightly stay? The island itself is beautiful, and the flamingos are amazing.

Hope you enjoy the pics!

Wow looks great, lucky guys.

I was supposed to be in Aruba on March 17th for my 50th this year on a cruise. . . . .

On March 13th the ships Captain announced at 10pm that the U.K. was going into total lockdown and all ships were to set sail for Southampton the next day. We had 10 days of crossing the Atlantic. Not the 50th I’d booked but still, I’ll get back there one day :-)

What a fantastic getaway. Congrats and happy belated birthday to you both. Yearning for the tropics. This is the longest we’ve gone without a cruise or tropical vacation in quite some time. We’ve done a lot of camping in the motorhome, but haven’t mustered the courage to fly anywhere yet. Your posts are certainly tilting the scales. Enjoy!

Sorry to hear that - yes, so many travel plans have been forced the other way. We were to go to Romania with the kiddos, as well as another trip to Mont St. Michel...oh well, at least we have our health!

Definitely recommend Aruba whenever you can make it!

Haha - we caught a bit of rain in Aruba too! Not PNW levels, though.

Ah, these pics bring back great memories. Thanks for sharing!

Loved the boat ride out to the island and watching the planes landing so close you could see the color of the pilots tie.

There was one flamingo that fell in love with me and wouldn't leave my side.

Looks amazing - the flamingos especially!

Have you been to Curaçao? If so, curious how it compares.

We want to go back to the ABC islands in the next few years when travel/ family permits.

Is that a cruise ship in one of the pics? You won't see me on one until the pandemic is over, although prices are likely attractive at the moment.

Yes, but not operating - they have 2 of them parked there.

We are usually cruise people, but agree with you - not looking to cruise for awhile.

Jealous. You mentioned 300 a night. Is that significantly less than non covid rates?

It's between $300-400 / night, depending on when you want to go during the year.
