Diego Maradona passed away at 60.

May he rest in peace.

Will never forget how he blatantly cheated against us in the World Cup with the ‘Hand Of God’ goal and then to rub salt in the wounds scored an incredible bonafide goal afterwards. Will always be a cheat as far as we are concerned in England but he was an incredible footballer overall. RIP Diego.

I was a fan of his talent but not his personality. He was our rival here as well.

However, when someone passes away we need to be respectful IMO.

I recall that day as if it was yesterday. As a 16 year obsessed with England winning the World Cup I hated him. As I got older I realised the talent he had.

Flawed genius, but genius none the less.

Ironically George Best died on this day as well.

Indeed, that’s why I finished my post with:

‘but he was an incredible footballer overall. RIP Diego’. Is that not respectful?

But that's not all you said man. You called a dead guy a cheater. I don't think that's respectful at all. I have no dog on this fight but it says a lot about you.

Agree but when someone quotes you it means there's a conversation between the two and it can go the wrong way sometimes. Without quoting me people can say whatever they want and I don't care.

The deceased is not a fellow countryman, just a genius player I saw on tv but I loved to watch him play.

He was a massively talented footballer and a massive cheat.
I see nothing controversial in stating these self-evident truths.
I still think Pele was better myself and that both Ronaldo and Messi will go down as better players in the final reckoning.
He'll be top 5 though, along with Bestie, for many years to come.

Don’t most footballers cheat? Pushing and shoving at corners, diving in the penalty area, feigning injury etc.

I seem to remember Michael Owen diving happily during international tournaments

I don't judge you for what you did with your life, but we love you for what you did with ours.

I should have been clearer. I had no issue whatsoever with what you said, in any post. And feel that you are 100% right.

There is a lot of uncleanable footprints that he left behind and that is what matters in the end, RIP to the hand of God.
