More Receptive ADs?

Are you guys finding ADs a little more receptive to offer or order SS models than in the past? I've had a few opportunities the past few months, since Rolex announced the new models in September, to place orders for some of them even without a long-standing relationship. Not the premium pieces, of course, but date Subs, Explorer 2, etc.. Anyone else seeing a thawing?

More Receptive ADs?

In the US, ADs cannot order the watches you mentioned. They can add you to their “list”... and we all know what that means.
With that said, it’s my understanding that ADs aren’t expecting much stock for the rest of 2020– this happenned last year at this time , has nothing to do w covid.

This is not factual. I was able to order an Explorer 2 and I live in the U.S.

Not sure when you reviewed yours , but *currently* ADs can not order this piece. They can add it to their “wish list” or whatever they call it, which is different from ordering it.

At the moment virtually no model can be "ordered." This is most likely the new Rolex distribution model going forward. Stuff turns up when it does. ADs have standing "orders" for all the hard to get pieces.

you can order a Datejusts only not even the new OPs. The new pieces might have more to do with Holiday season then anything.

As I understand it, allocation models are sent to ADs at Rolex discretion. You may have ordered a watch - paid a deposit, but your AD has no way of controlling when they will receive the watch. And you have no way of knowing whether you receive the first watch to arrive at the AD or the fifth. The only thing you know for sure, is that the AD will have a nice tan thanks to your deposit going toward his beach vacation.

I believe that in the US dealers know in advance how many of each reference they will get each year. Not exactly when but there is certainly a pattern to it at least for a high volume dealer.
Both my BLRO and Daytona had the words “special order” on my sales receipt. What that means at my dealer is you have been “listed” to get one of their known future allocations. In my case the predicted wait time ended up being quicker. The murky question is how you reach that point with the AD. I wholeheartedly believe that if an AD says they have ordered a watch for you, you will get it sometime.

Very much so and the tone from ADs has definetly softened in my experience but this is probably because sales figures have gone down (-40% wouldn't surprise me where I live) mainly due to the lack of afluent toutists, especially new money from China and LatAm I was told. This won't last though and we'll soon be back to where we were before the pandemic. I'm happy and content, got myself a TT Bluesy and it's all I wanted to add to my humble collection this year.

This is just hard to believe... for example with all those combination of gem-set lady's OP and dial combination, I'm supposed to just wait until the exact model shows up at my AD?

That model is not an “orderable” piece from Rolex.
Sure you feel like you’ve “ordered” it, but you’re just waiting for them to allocate you one

Thanks for the feedback, good info. I guess it's semantics then. I have put a deposit down at an AD and therefore I consider it ordered. It is correct that I don't have the delivery date yet for the watch.

On Sweden, there's no difference. The demand is still very high :(
