DSSD for daily office wear?

So I have some interesting observations about my recent watch rotation. For the past couple months, I wore my Seamaster 300 (41mm) and PO (46mm) for the first time in nearly a year after continued use with my Sub.

For a month or so, I started with the Seamaster. The Seamaster proportionally did not seem to wear any bigger than my Sub, but with the shorter height on the case, fit absolutely beautifully with dress shirts. Even with gloves, the comfort was quite amazing and flexible.

For the next month, I moved to the PO. I haven't worn the PO consistently for more than a month for a couple years at least. To be honest, I completely forgot just how well built it really is, and I would contend the build quality is even on par with Rolex itself. The Seasmaster 300 is more prone to scratches, and therefore looks more worn and dated. My PO on the other hand looks nearly brand new (just like my Sub), which is impressive for a 7 year old watch.

In any event, the PO was always difficult to wear with a dress shirt. Given that I was constantly wearing gloves for winter, the watch certainly made that challenging. Well this week for the first time, the Sub is back on my wrist. It feels so light compared to the PO, but it was like love at first sight again. The Sub fits perfectly with my dress shirts, and is a delight to wear in a desk diver environment, and not too bulky that it gets in the way.

With all that said, I would like to hear from DSSD owners on their thoughts about daily wear. Is the DSSD just as bulky as PO that it doesn't fit with your formal wear? Does the DSSD flop around at all, or is the bracelet balanced well? Pictures of dress cuffs appreciated!

My friend has one and wears it everyday. His left arm is more muscular now.

I sold my DSSD because it did not fit under my dress shirts at all. Anything with French cuffs was worse for some reason? My YM II has no problem going well with formal wear.

You know what, after I stopped wearing the PO I noticed my arm was compensating less to do the same tasks with my Sub, so there is some truth to the added weight.

Is the YMII much "shorter" than the DSSD? I guess I never paid attention to just how much taller the DSSD case is than the rest of the Rolex sports line.

It just wears like any other watch. I wore mine for 20 hours on end 5 days a week and forgot it was there at all. It's my favorite Rolex, by far. I don't get all the recent fuss about it ... and yes, I love the new SD as well.

What is your wrist size? That image shows everything very uniform. Next time I have a work shirt on I will take a pic of the PO. With my 7.5 wrist, the PO case is almost too long to the point that it barely squeezes in the cuff.

It is quite noticeably thinner (the YM II). I would try them both and compare, maybe it is just my shirts (Boss, Versace, Thomas Pink)?

I was drawn to the DSSD because of the 44mm case, but I found the thickness a little too much (personal preference maybe?).

A very flat 6.75. The key to the DSSD is proper sizing so it does not move around.

I had a YM II for a while and it wears a little better than the DSSD, mostly due to the contoured lugs. Regardless, it has a larger white and very expansive dial so it looked bigger on my wrist. Here is a pic for comparison.

The YM II is thinner indeed (though not necessarily a thin watch), but that never bothered me with the DSSD, all the contrary.

I wear my DSSD almost every day. Since I got it a year ago, all my other watches have become little more than pretty exhibits in my closet. Correct sizing is essential, but the DSSD's adjustable bracelet makes that simple. It is a little top heavy to wear with some shirts, but no more than most watch brands these days. Of all the watches that I have owned or currently do own, the deep sea is the most versatile and draws the most comments. I love the fact that so many people hate it, but when they get a chance to try it on (for more than a few minutes), they usually end up saying that it's actually very comfortable. Interestingly, the head of my wife's law firm tried for months to talk me out of buying it, even loaned me his YM to show me the error of my ways - three months after I got mine, he sent me a picture of his new DSSD...

my dssd works fine with my dress shirts, but it all depends on your dress shirts.

the weight of the watch will be forgotten after a week of daily wear.

Funny isnt it ......dssd is the ultimate dive/ watch and all everybody seems worried about is if itll be ok with a work shirt.
I guess at r&d stage rolex didnt factor in the shirt cuff dilemma...

I sold mine for the same reason, and am glad I did.

It is true that after a week's solid wear one will get used to it. But it's also true that once you wear a max. 9-10mm thick watch, or even a titanium-cased watch, then you'll greatly appreciate the reduction in weight.

While everyone has different preferences and there are practically no rules, we should never forget the primary design and function in mind of every watch - and the SDDS was designed and made as a diver's watch, not as a dress one.

As mentioned, it does depend on what type of shirts you wear and, in particular, how tightly cuffed they are. I like my DSSD but for most of my shirts - it's a non-starter, relegated to weekend and casual wear.

The great thing about oversized watches in the office is you can take them off and use as a paper weight.

This for me. One of my collegaues owns one and we've traded a few times for the day. I find my sub struggles to hide under most of my cuffs so the DSSD is a bit of a no go. Looking face down the watch looks fine.

I'm not sure how or why people wear their shirt cuffs so tight, but I've never had a shirt that my DSSD wouldn't fit underneath.

I wear my DSSD in the office all the time except when I'm wearing a suit. I only wear double cuff shirts with a suit and it doesn't allow the shirt to flow up & down freely, especially when I'm presenting or using a white board. For that reason, I only wear a DJ II with a suit.

I tried on the DSSD a couple of weeks ago at an AD. I have a small wrist but while it looked big, I still liked it and didn't think it looked bad or was uncomfortable. Maybe it's because I've worn Panerais for 10 years and gotten used to the look and feel of a bigger watch. I think once you wear a big watch for a while, it doesn't seem all that big anymore.

Well R&D forgot to consider their intended wearer, the Professional Desk Diver.

I really enjoy wearing my DSSD. I kindda like the "negatives" others mention.

Yes, it's top heavy
Yes, the bracelet tapers a little too much
Yes, the writing on the inner ring is a bit much

I really like the over all feel of the watch - the crystal and the matte dial.

If it doesn't fit under the cuffs - roll up the sleeves and wear it on Fridays!

Thanks everyone for your replies, I'm about to post a new thread with some interesting observations (rants) and pics. The DSSD has sucked me in to the abyss...at least it can handle the depth rating!
