PAM 560 vs 422... which would you get

I know its different. I hvae never had a PAM but have always been interested in getting one. i think ive narrowed my choices to these 2. Was wondering what panerisiti’s prefer and why.

Is a 44 vs a 47 mm that much more noticable. I have a 6.5-6.75 wrist

This would be my first Pam. Im not 100% decided. Trying to get myself over the hump. :)

I like the 422 more, 47mm and the sub dial, the 560 I don’t like the 8 days on the dial. Good luck with your choice.

With your wrist size I would probably go with the 560. It'll end up being more wearable and better suited for your wrist imo. That being said- I like the 422 more. The crystal, dial, and case have more character than the 560. Good luck!

How flat is your wrist? I have roughly the same wrist size and my go to daily wear is 368 (which is comparable to 422)

Even though I like titanium case and 8 days movement but the pull of 422 is too strong to ignore

Ive gried on the 422 before and it fit fine. My wrist is broad enough for it. Funny thing is i never tried the 560. Is the 1950 case better looking? Than the flat cushion of the 560?

I must say, I really like the chunky look of the 560. This is my 562, the titanium version of the 560:

I think the 1950 isn't necessarily better looking, perhaps a bit more formal or dressier? Not that either is really a dress watch. The only other consideration might be water resitance, if that is important. The 560 is WR to 300M and the 422 to 100M.

I have a few the PAM 673, which have the cushion case. Almost prefer the squarer shape of the 562, though, but that would not be a deciding factor between the two styles.

Cheers,
Carl

Hey,

My wrist is exactly the same as yours (6.7", or 17cm), and I went through this same dilemma when choosing my first pam, except I was torn between a 510 and a 422. Here is what I found:

I always liked the looks of the 422 (those golden hands are gorgeous) a little more than those of the 510.

I can carry the 422. It's supposed to look large for historical reasons, as opposed to being big just for the heck of it, and I think it looked cool on my wrist.

That being said, I'd suggest you think about how you'd like to wear this piece - if it's meant for constant or daily wear or if it's going to be more of a weekend watch. If the latter, the 422 is an amazing pick. For a daily driver, the size could become tiresome after the honeymoon is over.

Regarding case shape, I much, much prefer the 1950's case lines. This is strictly personal, but its design just looks a lot more streamlined and sexier to me.

In the end, I sold my 422 because it was getting very little wrist time because of the size. I only wore it on weekends and even then I was more often than not reaching for other, easier to wear, pieces (size wise).

After a while I sorely missed having a pam in the collection and went for a 233. It has the 1950's case, a beautiful super domed crystal, is manual wind and perfectly sized for me at 44mm. GMT complication and 8 day PR to boot.

That being said, I still think the 422 and 372 are among the most beautiful watches Panerai makes and wouldn't be surprised if I pick up a 372 in the future.

Here are some pictures from when I was trying on the 422 and the 510, as well as some of my 233. Hope this helps.

Between the 422 and 560, I’d go for the 372. ;-)

I think the more simple dial will look better on your wrist size.

Otherwise, if 44, I would go 005/000/111/112 over the 560 (or as suggested above, 233). I’m just not a big fan of “8 DAYS” on the dial (YMMV).

Good luck with the choice!

233 is nice but thickness (and weight) wise,it's a different beast

I have both 111,219 and 372 (which is roughly the same as OP's original choice) and I find myself wearing 372 more with 219 comes close

The most important thing, has OP tried both watches?

1st Pam. 6.5-6.75 wrist.

My advice would be to go try on many different Pams and sizes at the AD first.

47mm Radiomir would look different on ur wrist vs 47mm Luminor or submersible.
U may find u like 42mm or 44mm

Anyways, see the watches in person, rather than basing ur selection on online pics or people’s rec.

Chances are, u might end up with something besides the 560 or 422

If I be you, I’ll get the 372 instead. When you are at it, remember to get the plexiglass version.

I have, now, the 560 and 422. I do not have a 372 but I have something very similar in the 673. Of course, if you are able to afford both, that would be the best.

In getting a 372, you are actually going in-between both the 560/422, right?

I suggest you get both of them, concentrating on the one with a lesser price first.

Hey guys thanks for the advice...

wife wont let me buy preowned otherwise id get a 233 because i like the super dome sapphire. My favorite. That knocks out a lot of other watches. Which is why i was thinking the 422 because the crystal comes up a little vs flat.

This watch would be a daily beater. But that just means going to the office. Maybe eat a burger.

Radiomir looks nice but i need to have the crown guard. Thats something that is a must for me. Wspecially since i am using this as a daily.

I guess ill try to go see the 560 on the wrist later this week.

These two pics that you quoted, which are the last two from my original reply, are both of my 233.

This was great! I honestly believe that's the type of life the majority of the "daily beaters" live!

Change of plans... the panerai is going to have to be pushed off for a bit... gotta spend the money on another daily beater for the moment. But thanks to you guys my first panerai will likely be a 422. Hopefully later this year.

Thanks all
