Me.. " No??!??" Him.. ""Yes!" Me..🤤

So , on a whim, I took a walk into Stockholm yesterday.
Flipping one of my Explorers, and it's New Year All that type of excuse we used go and play.
Pondering a diver, so went for a cuppa or two with some if the dealers. There must be a Sub - Daytona shortage here because I swear they all had one or the other on their wrists.
I digress.
Now Sweden in my opinion is a HUGE FAN OF THE ROLEX SPORTS / MOTM LINES.
I wore my Speedy TINTIN to sass them a bit.. They all hate it, then they try to get me drunk with caffeine and chocolate muffins (to "assist in my Trigger pull)
You have to love them, the little darlings .

Ok ... they show me subs, Deepsea Batman, new Exp, Cameron, Planets, and the list goes on..
My black 2006 Exp 2 will never leave my wrist, but, at the moment , the vavavoom just isn't there.
I Just can't feel the love at the moment, it's not like it used to be.

Then.... This happened.....
Late in the day , and with belt loosened by two notches , l popped into see a golfing buddy. ( like me , he also tells his wife he is done with watches )
Small talking about stuff until I noticed that his left cuff was " a little more
stretched " than normal.... I smelled a secret!

Things Kind of went like this:
Me: you didn't tell me!
Him: Tell you what!!.
Me: don't be a smartass boyo.... you didn't think I would see that the bulge under your left cuff is .. let's say..... a little larger?!!
Him: I have no idea what you Are talking about...
Me: YOU $#/%&$#@/... YOU PULLED A TRIGGER WITHOUT ME BEING THERE!!!!
I ought to $@#@#$$%= for doing that!
Him: I have only borrowed it for a few days to test out the feel. I swear I was coming over to show you!!!!!.
Now this guy has just about every type of Rolex, Omega, AP...yaddayadda...
Me: Oh now you have got a sneak peak at new toys from Basel 2018.
Him : No.... 2017
Me: What do you mean .... no.

Then, as he pulled up his shirt cuff..... l was saying : Ok then , let me see your new extra large diamond model of The Skydwel.................
Me: staring, open mouthed.
Me: WTF!!!!!!! Shouted so loud the entire place went quiet.....
It should be explained here that l never know what l like until l see it.

You know the "love at first sight, jaw drops, drooling like a dog look? "
(She keeps telling me that a what happened when l first saw her.... yeah right)
So, I Looked at this watch.. looked at him ( smug smiling ballix)
It was a diver
It was a chunk of titanium.
Black dial, NOT one of our usual whims.
HIM: AH? AAAAHH? AHHHHHHHHHAHAA

All this while he watched my open jaw and drooling tongue following this "Thing" as he waved around in front of me.
Then he started.... Steve, this is 17mm thick
Me: bullshit!
Him: 46.8mm diameter..
Me......uuuuurrrrrrggghhhggsgaghh. or something like that.
Him: what do you think? Nice?

I closed my mouth, gathered myself and he handed me the "Thing."
Thinking... do not be emotional, ok? It's only a watch you have not seen before ... it's only a ...WHOOOOOOOAAAA...... I MEAN ... WTF!!!!!!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS?????!!!!
NO!!! And he said "YES!!!" and l said
" F/#@$", and he said. "Exactly right! Turns out everybody at Basel 2017 was gagging over the new Deepsea, and Citizen 1000.
Me: and we missed this?!
Him: not only us but Sweden too. This is xxxxxxxxx (name omitted) personal watch.
Me: if this was here we would have known about it
Him: hasn't gotten here to my knowledge yet. ( need to actually confirm this)
Me: 9 months after the show.
Him: yep.

Act 1 finishes here.
Before I go on here with " the big reveal"
And having played with, bought, sold , stripped/ built watches while learning the realm that is Horology
Very few models/firms indeed have signalled a major change in the hierarchy of the upper middle tier of the watch world in recent times. The long established royalty we all know and love have created the wave for decades.
My feeling on this? Omega has how many models of the Speedmaster? 40+
Rolex and their DD lines.
Their tried and tested method of if it's not broken , don't fix it has kept them where they are for decades
But , honestly how long can these boom days last.

Well people in the next few year this "New," and I mean new

Armchair critics will kick their opinions ..hopefully into this thread, and I hope they do. If it has not been done before if course.
The will be agrees and not agrees...

Now I of course am talking about one model of the brand here,,,,
Say what you will now if course, but all of you should , at the next opportunity try this watch on, feeling and look at it.
This watch is amazing in its build , styling, and the overall quality is better than ROLEX..... YEAH I SAID IT.
(I ONLY HOPE ROLEX KNOW IT TOO)

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN
MY NEXT WATCH,
BECAUSE IT IS BETTER THAN ANY ROLEX DIVER I HAVE SEEN, ( and it looks great on me

AS I said , THIS IS a big diver, but smaller than the SD.
THERE ARE reviews on Utube, some well made, some not, but as always
Interested in all your opinions

Now, not having slept for about two days- due to jetlag and sick children, I had nothing to do so spun up this little saga over the night for your viewing pleasure

GRAND SEIKO HI BEAT 36000 model SBGH255
46.9mm x 17mm 600m 16milgauss (wow)

I bet you all know what it is already. But here you go:

The blue dial is limited to 500 pieces =
$14000..ish
The black dial is unlimited=$12000..ish

PLEASE PLEASE, before you ask. This is my personal opinion and that is all.
I am not nor ever been affiliated with Grand Seiko... or for that matter rolex.omega.AP...... Patek... yawn....Philipezzzzzzzźzzzzzz

While I appreciate the extraordinary effort that you put into this post, the price on this GS Diver is ridiculous.

I own 2 GS watches and I really like them...but again...preposterous cost for this watch.

$5k? Maybe. $14K absolutely not.

The lume of the second hand is at the bottom of the hand, how do you read the seconds in the dark ?? Half a minute more or half a minute less ??

I was going to buy this model but went for Submariner 114060 . At the end of the day I'm very happy with my choice. It's a nice watch but I don't like its numbers on the bezel, I like Submariner, Sea Dweller implementations in character wise
Bes, a watch of this price should incorporate screw in links, I'm not sure for this watch though

Sorry, even though I'm a Grand Seiko fan and owner, their divers and chronos leave me cold.

I have a few Seiko watches but Au$20k is too rich even for an exalted GS.

✓The Pinterest picture posted of the blue dialled GS Pro Diver 600 Hi Beat 36K is showing the WRONG reference number. The correct reference is SBGH257
✓ The irony of GS's 1st saturation diver HB is that the Normal production black dialled model SBGH255 has the Gilt printing with gold rimmed index markers. The Limited Edition model doesn't have the gold accents !
✓ I am not entirely convinced the asking price of LE blue dialled GS Diver HB is US$ 14 K-ish. The official Seiko boutique in KL had 1 LE unit for sale few months back going for something like US$ 9225

I like the GS line but can not get myself to pay that much. Maybe one day. For now I will stick with my Turtles.

I have to admit, it’s waaaay too early for me to read a post that long. I cut straight to the photos and comments here.

No offense as I generally like Seiko, but it looks like they took designs from Omega (case), AP (dial) and Rolex and forced them together.

I do like Seiko and have seen that GS Diver, personally for that much $$$ I get the Rolex SD43 which is a better watch IMO and if you have to have a titanium diver than check out the Omega Ploprof titanium diver with mesh bracelet, both Omega Ploprof and Rolex SD43 divers had much more history behind them than this GS Diver.

I'd rather get the Seiko Tuna 1000m Automatic diver (which I have one and love it) which an incredible watch with rich history for much less money. Or new limited edition SLA017 if you can find one

Hey the story wasn’t bad just the watch leaves a LOT to be desired.

I wanted to buy this watch. I would kill for a reasonably sized well done automatic GS diver.

The case is obscenely large. The hands are not only ugly, they overlap in an awkward manner.

The date is in an undesirable location.

It’s top thick.

It’s overpriced.

If the OP was blown away good for him. Design and stylistically this has nothing on a Sub.

Like many of you the GS divers do nothing for me (and I own a few GS, and a few Seiko divers).

I'm not a fan. Ignoring the pricing, I still find it to be not attractive. The hands are a bad fit for the overall look.

Even at the lower MSRP's mentioned, there are too many other, better looking options out there.
