Harder to get from AD and more limited production….SS Daytona or Sky D….

Which is harder to get and more limited production wise? Stainless Daytona’s or blue/mint green dial Sky Dweller?

More Daytonas made and much higher demand. Less demand for Skydwellers but much less production. Customer buying from AD? I’d lean towards SS Daytona because you kind of have to earn it from your AD, although the requirements may be a bit murky.

At my AD.

Daytona is very hard to get. Must be someone important or have a great long relationship with the store. Not just buying watches but jewelry bringing in new customers ect.

Sky’s - they get way less in than any other steel model. There is less demand but supply is very limited.
They get 1 blue for every 3 white/black. So far only 1 green for 2023. I imagine it will be the same as the blue interms of allocations to the AD.

I’d say Daytona even though they probably make more of them than the SkyDweller.

Blue SS Sky D is up there with the Daytona (Panda) and BLRO. You need to spend big to get these pieces.

Hearing rumours the Blue is to be discontinued since the introduction of Mint.

Pre-pandemic I got both black and white 11 Daytonas and a blue Skydweller from my AD before Rolex pulled their product from them. I waited about the same for the white Daytona and blue Skydweller (just under two years) and only a few months for the black Daytona.

I never inquired about a SkyD (Blue), but, FWIW, waited 18 months before getting a 116500LN (White). Have been waiting about 10 months for the 126500LN (White).

Strong demand for Daytona comes from both genders and all size wrists, so hyped that even big wristed men want it vs Sky Dweller demand which comes from men with big enough wrists.

Simply look at grey market pricing for degree of difficultness. Price is truth.

The Daytona is generally more difficult to get because of the extremely high demand.

It is very likely that there are many times more Daytonas produced than Skydwellers.

I have a SS Sky D in blue from my AD but don't have a SS Daytona

everything else I have asked for I have been able to get in 6-9 months of really asking for it re: telling my SA this is what I want next (BLRO, Whitegold Daytona, Sub ect...)

Got my SS Blue Sky-Dweller last week from my AD after 2 year wait. I am now on list for SS Panda Daytona and AD is telling me it will be 6 mo to a year.

My guess would be SS Daytona is harder to get than the blue or green dial Sky-Dweller. The Daytona has greater popular demand I think.

Both are killer watches, but quite dissimilar.

I started collecting seriously in 2008. I've never seen a stainless steel Daytona in an AD let alone been asked if I want one. I have seen precious metal and two tone models in display cases pre-2017ish. Sky-Dwellers I've seen around. The blue dial Sky-Dweller is certainly the most desired and probably as hard to get as a Daytona, but there are far less made. Daytonas as a stainless steel offering are definitely the hardest to get.

The SS Daytona is in its own zip code in hard to get in Rolex status at a AD. This is nothing new as the SS Daytona was hard to get decades before any cared about Rolex in the mainstream.
It goes #1 White SS Daytona, #2 Black SS Daytona. The BLRO/Pepsi or anything else is way down the line in difficulty to get from a AD.

Where you’ll get a break with the Sky Dweller’s is it’s wearability and general mass appeal as not a lot will want that big of a watch.

I’m going to say Daytona by a wide margin. Any Daytona is hard to get, in almost every configuration whether it’s SS or PM. Sky Dwellers on the other hand are way easier to get in PM, steel is still hard. I was on vacation in the U.K. last September and went to the Rolex AD at the Bristol mall just for sh!ts and giggles and they had a YG Sky-Dweller champagne dial to buy at MSRP. I’ve also been offered multiple WG and RG Sky-Dweller on bracelet and Oysterflex by my local ADs but I’ve passed on them.

SS Daytona is harder to get from the AD, but SkyD Blue isn’t far behind.

You require a longer relationship, large spend, or luck to obtain either from an AD within a reasonable wait time.
