If you could only have one of the AP Royal Oak Offshore Chrono 44mm...

Looking at my next grail and I have narrowed it down to the AP Royal Oak Offshore Chrono 44mm that was introduced in 2011. I start out wanting the SS version then there were threads on the CF version and my mind was fixed on getting a carbon fiber variant. But now after seeing more threads on the RG version I think I found the sweet spot. (note to self, stop reading these AP incoming threads LOL). Would like to know what my fellow TRFers would choose if it came down to this watch and in which metal and why.

Glad we can help out

Having the 44mm in FC and RG now, it's a tough call. If you want to set in with a more casual, then obviously FC. Very under the radar watch.

The RG has about as must wrist presence of any watch I have ever seen. Can be spotted a mile away and pops like nothing I've owned. All in a good way, not over the top--VERY elegant, yet sporty.

The one thing I can tell you is no matter which one you choose, you most likely will eventually buy the other (ask Bogdan and Eddie if they feel the same).

Tell us what you are looking for--covert or a statement.

If you can do it all over again which one would you buy first?

well I have the Themes in Titanium, and before that I had the slate.
I'm getting rid of both to go for the carbon fiber one, Don't ask me why but Just looks better imo

Probably exactly like I did FC then RG.

Again two different watches.

But yes FC first, unless you know you want a watch with more presence right off the bat.

Glad those incoming threads work...
Remember for the price of RG you can have both FC and SS
I would say if I could only have only one, I would buy SS. Why? I think FC and RG is nice additions to a collection but SS is more versatile.
I know many guys bought Panda before Bumbblebee or Volcano for same reason.
Bumblebee is better overall watch than Panda just like FC 44 and RG 44 are "better" than SS 44 but I assume you like the size of 44 mm and if you have to have ONLY ONE - SS would be my choice.
I agree with Paul, you will not stop after buying first 44 mm, second will come soon after.

Just a minor correction... it's not carbon fiber but forged carbon. Very different manufacturing process.

Once you put a Ti Barichello as an option, it's game over for me. IMO this is the best looking ROO ever made.

That stainless steal just pops. I wanted to hold out to see if they were going to come out with a black dial , but that version grew on me

Hahaha, this thread pulls at my heart strings. I posted this same kind of thread 6 months ago.

I went with the steel as my first 44. Said it would be my only AP.

Then two months later, bought the forged carbon. Said it would be my last AP.

Then two months later, bought the rose gold. Said it would be my last AP.

...................................

Now in two months............... lol.

There's no wrong answer. I know this is said a million times, but the only right answer is which one takes your breath away. For your sake, I hope it's only one that does so. Don't let the pictures on these threads sway your decision. Make the time to find an AD or make a trip to a boutique to see them all in person.

If you can't find an official AD with most of these models in hand, we have several unofficial ADs here on this forum that carry a wide selection of relevant APs.

If you live in the Pacific NW, visit Bogdan Jewelers, with a wide variety of special APs.

If you live in Texas, visit Paulie's Bling Watches, with a wide selection of go big or go home watches.

If you live near the DC area, visit Choi's Trinkets, your destination for oddly shaped timepieces.

If you live near PA/Ohio, visit Steel City Timekeepers, with the best in out of control awesome watches.

If you live in Colorado, find the Caveman Jewelers, reinventing the wheel and watch every week.

LOL.

Ok back to TRF hibernation.

It would have to be either of the ROOC or RBII in RG. Given that one is double the cost of the other, its a factor. But for the cost of an RG RBII, I probably would get an FC and RG ROOC and live happily ever after.

Ed, if you can only have one between RG and FC which would it be? Which one would you save if the ceiling was coming down and you have time only to grab one? LOL

FC: Forged Carbon for me if I could afford it. I remember when AP introduced it--not long ago--and caused such controversy. Did it look unfinished or cheap? Naw. It looked functional, stealthy and wabi sabi. Thanks for asking.
