The,"essence of racing" and all that, is all very laudable and lovely...then a young driver dies and someone will say, "well, he died doing what he loved" and a Mother somewhere sobs uncontrollably.

It is not the first time Rus has crashed pushing hard on the last lap.

Even without assistance.

Respectfully disagree. The goal is for F1 and Liberty to make money. This requires a good show and drama. Safety seems obvious, but the drivers are strapping themselves to a plastic bathtub with an incredibly powerful drivetrain, brakes, aero. There will always be inherent risk, before the human element is even considered.

Fair and safe racing was IROC. That did not end well.

It's actually the 3rd time RUS has done this, all at the end of a race and the craziest stat of all is that all of Carlos Sainz's F1 GP wins have come when RUS does this.

Oh my goodness, have we been so shortsighted as to suggest Paul be the new F1 channel announcer? Forget Kimi, we need Paul in the commentator booth for the F1 channel.

It always seemed to rain for the Japan F1 GP.

Just stumbled across this wonderful photograph, from 1976.
(Jame's right shoe....interesting)

It rained that year, too.

One of the best quotes of all time:

"Of course he didn't listen to me. For James, one world title was enough. He had proved what he needed to prove. To himself and anyone who doubted him. And two years later, he retired. When I saw him next in London, seven years later, me as a champion again, him as broadcaster, he was barefoot on a bicycle with a flat tire, still living each day like his last. When I heard he died age 45 of a heart attack, I wasn't surprised. I was just sad.

People always think of us as rivals but he was among the very few I liked and even fewer that I respected.

He remains the only person I envied."

Fernando Alonso has resigned with Aston Martin ending speculation he would move to Red Bull or Mercedes. The deal extends to the end of 2026 guaranteeing Alonso will be in the grid for the new formula set to take place at the start of 2026.

Today's F1 Sprint race trophy.... the look on driver's faces on how small they were was priceless. I've seen better trophies given at SCCA Regional events.

It's the best they got on Wish.com or Temu! Is it surprising that in order to save face & tow the party lines, they simply painted the track instead of doing any repairs after not being on the calendar for 3 years? https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/th...rise/10600021/

I think the last time they raced in China was actually 2019, so 5 years.

All that being said, I've thoroughly enjoyed the weekend so far. Big fan of the sprint weekends and hope they consider going to this format in 2025 at all venues. MotoGP already does this!

Who wants to see 3 free practice sessions when we can get just 1 practice session, have the teams try and figure out their set ups, then straight away to a sprint qualifying, sprint race and then allow the teams to make any changes for the race qualifying? More eyeballs on the product hence more sponsors and advertisers on their end.

The slippery slur surfacing is probably not the best in wet conditions, but I had forgotten how good this track is for racing! Good battles on track with plenty of opportunities to pass and get side by side.

Ferrari's are a little out of position and given their newly found ease on tires, expect them to move forward during the race.... unless it rains.

Agreed Phillip the qual and racing so far has been very good. The drivers have truly been working for positions. ... except Max who simply has to drive and win.

Great question… they gave Ricciardo a new chassis this weekend and so far, he’s been ahead of Yuki on all the sessions that matter.

FLYONSO!

He was great and now he was also the fastest Looks like he was in charge of the entertainment today and probably the only driver who still really enjoys this kind of racing. And so I'm enjoying more and more his excellent racing style!
