Availability?

Hi all.

Ive been waiting on a Rolex model forever, and about to give up.

I have been left an inheritance, and want to purchase a watch in memory of.

Is the supply of Omegas the same as Rolex? None about? Not a lot of stock?

Im mostly interested in the Speedmasters, Dark Side of The Moon keeps grabbing my attention

Im in the UK.

Certain popular limited edition/product models will have availability issues similar to Rolex (ie sold out at retail and sold for multiples of retail price on the grey market). Other than that they'd be available.

In the USA the entire catalog of "standard" Omega watches are available immediately (or in a couple of weeks if the dealer needs to order something for you from Omega).

There are a handful of special models with very limited production that probably take a year or more to receive.

If you want a DSOTM then you'll probably find a Boutique or Authorized Dealer who can put one on your wrist today (I believe conditions in the UK are similar to the USA).

I use the Omega Boutique in Gateshead and they currently have good stock levels generally, but I don't know about a Dark Side of the Moon model.

Isn't DSOTM being discontinued or already has been from production. While some ADs/OBs have some left, I don't think new ones are being shipped from Omega.

I think the DSOTM is just a LP watch that isn't readily available.

I phoned the Trafford centre shop, and they explained that they do have good stock, and anything not in stock can generally be got in weeks.
They have a DSOTM, its the Apollo 8 in stock, not sure if I prefer it against the others though.

I know everyone has different tastes, but what is the popular Omega that buyers/collectors
prefer?

Speedmaster Pro, Speedmaster EW 321 if you can get, Seamaster Professional Diver 300M, 42mm Planet Ocean with the 2500 movement, and watches worn by James Bond.

That Apollo 8 is way cool . For a man wading into the Speedmaster pool, that would be a neat way to do it.

Mine's a Speedmaster Pro 3861. Love it - and that's coming from a long-term Rolex owner.

You can basically forget about getting a Rolex. Omega watches are still available.

The DSOTM is a cool watch but carries a hefty price tag NIB from the Boutique or an AD. I have owned them all and enjoyed the experience but none have stuck long term. I always buy pre-owned as to save 3-4k. I would recommend going in and trying on the various models. I have a 1861 and a 3861 that get most of my wrist time and I like the fit, finish, wear and appearance. They are also strap monsters and look great on a bracelet/leather/NATO. Typically the watch game is a journey, not a destination and as you learn and own your tastes might change. You can find a slightly pre-owned 1861 with the classic Hesilite crystal for around 4.5k complete. I would pick it up and start my journey. As you learn you can keep it or sell it and not get skinned. Just my thoughts. Good luck and let us know what you decide.
