Icon4 Scammer claiming to be me - mbbgysam

A sophisticated scammer created a fake gmail account with my username (mbbgysam@gmail.com) and reached out to at least one person I've sold to in the past with the email below. This email address does NOT belong to me, nor does the phone number in the email.

Quote:
[redacted],

Hope all is well and happy holidays. How’s the Grand Seiko?

I just ran into an awesome deal and I was wondering if you would be interested in a pre-owned mint condition SS Daytona 116520, white dial, random serial with complete box and papers for only $18k. A Daytona 116500LN ceramic white dial mint w/ box & papers for $25k. I’m selling them for my brother in law who originally purchased it from me 2 years ago. Also I am selling for him a Patek Philippe 5070R rose gold unworn w/ box and papers for $60k, BNIB Batman 126710 for $13.5k and a BNIB Batgirl 126710 for $14k. I would buy some myself but I just cashed out on 5 watches on Wednesday so I’m holding back until I can sell some of the ones I have. Figured I would email some friends and past customers of mine and let them know about this great deal before posting them online. If you or anyone you know are interested let me know.

Regards,

I guess there is nothing for the Mods to act upon since he doesn’t have control of your TRF account itself.

The heads-up is the only way to handle this.

Can you elaborate a bit? The buyer’s reference in Who’s Who for you would have allowed the scammer to know a deal was done between you two.

But how the scammer got your buyer’s email addy to send him this scam is puzzling.

I have 2FA on my TRF and real gmail accounts and am fairly confident that nothing was compromised on my side.

Unfortunately the buyer's email address is the same as his TRF username, so the scammer probably just guessed it.

I also sent a warning PM to each TRF member I've transacted with in the past... keeping my fingers crossed that the scammer won't be successful!
