Hello Everyone!

I would like to know your opinion about the epic battle between the GMT master II 116710:

and the new Submariner, 116610:

Which one is cooler?
Is there any difference between price and weight ?

Who wins?

Something's wrong with that ceramic Sub, I'm pretty sure the one coming out has no PCL's...

Plus, I have the GMT so it wins.

the ceramic sub pic is incorrect.... but I believe sub will win still... i have gmt II c though....

I don't believe that ceramic sub pic is an official one. The pcls and also the protective shoulders for the crown should be more blocky in appearance.

That said, as fond as i am of my gmtIIC, given the choice I'd go for the new sub....I may still do so.

Here's a picture of the new Sub Ceramic.

Tough choice but if we're talking exclusively stainless steel then the Sub C wins.

Can you guys state your reasoning for why you like one over the other? I'm curious to know if its just because of something like pcl's or if its something more. Thanks

As for me I think I the 116710 has an edge. The I think its the symmetry of the bezel that does it for me. As for pcl's, I can go either way. I really like the look of the polished but don't know if I would want it on an every day watch. I guess the best solution is to have both, Sub for every day activities and the GMT for special occasions.

It used to be that the twin lock vs trip lock and the slimmer build vs the chunkier build would help to differentiate the two. Now, besides their obvious functional differences, they are very similar. Tougher choice than ever.

So it's down to:

complication - point GMT. If you travel, the GMT

day to day function - point Sub, you can time your eggs by the bezel

bling - point sub for it's more understated centre links (my bias shared by others)

colour splash - point GMT for the green hand

classic points - sub

I think I'd go the sub, but I have a GMT 16750 already which makes the choice easier.

The price is very simillar too...

Despite loving the Submariner so much, i think i do prefer the GMT.

Still wondering how the PCL´s will be after 1 year of daily use..

Can any one tell me that?

Sub is my choice. I am not a fan of the GMT IIc polished links as they are scratch magnets. I purchased a SS Daytona some eight months ago and even with a mixed rotation the polished links show the wear. I have had subs for years and due to their brushed bands they look great after years of use.

That being said, I believe I will one day own both. I intend to always have a sub, and would like the GMT as it has the GMT movement and supports that function and it is sooooo cool that you can adjust the hour without resetting the time. I currently have a LV and am looking to purchase a GMT IIc. May look at the new Sub in a year or two from now and dump the LV.

From the pics (real - and not the ones posted of the Sub here)...the GMT2cSS is the outstanding Rolex in it's class....the new Sub C SS doesn't even come close...nowhere near.....IMHO...

Not fussed on either as i do not like the green hand or writing on the GMT IIc and not over the moon about ceramic bezels.

A Daytona SS will also be ok.

I've only had mine about a month. There are slight very fine scratches on the bracelet from normal wear, and are hardly noticeable at the moment. I don't have any newer photos of the bracelet.
Scratches don't bother me. If I wanted a watch unscratched, then I would keep it in a safe and never wear it.

The thing is, as i never had a Rolex, i am a bit afraid of getting the watch all scratched (everyone is saying the PCL´s are a scratch magnet).

in that case i would rather waite for the new sub..

i will waite for some photos, so i can decide better

brushed doesn't mean it doesn't get scratched... it doesn't show the scratches if compared to PCL....

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't this an unfair argument? Aren't both watches literally the same exact thing except the gmt has a different bezel and can keep time in two zones white the sub has a different bezel and can go deeper in water?

Isn't this really more of a comparison between time zone functionality vs diving functionality? If you are talking about looks though, the GMT wins although I wouldn't be complaining if someone gave me either one.

But I will go with the gmt2c as my next watch. for two reasons
1. I already have a 16610
2. I can get gmt2c for a lot less money since they are available in abundance..116610 may be hard to come by in the next year or so..

I prefer the understated classic appearance of the Sub and the additional complication of the GMT2.
If I could have only one, I would choose the new ceramic bezel Sub because looks like the watch it replaced.
The GMT2 ceramic does not have the classic appearance of the watch it replaced.

based on looks

if i want a square classic look, i would go sub but i feel ceramic to be more luxury than tool. anyway i accept its the end for the old 16610

the gmt is more modern and curvy.

winner - gmt

based on price

with just these small improvements to the sub it doesnt seem worth it.

the gmt looks like it was really overhauled

what i like are the improvements on bracelet for all modern rolex models

what are your opinions?
