Are you concerned about the yellow hue patina?
Do you know the partial serial number? Dial is a Mk-6, last production for the red series.. |

Just sometimes it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion because aftermarket dials or relumed dials are getting harder and harder to tell. I gathered from my comparison at doubleredseadweller.com that it's a MK-6 as well. Just wanted to double check to make sure. |

If you magnify your picture, you see some odd inconsistencies that could be due to printing..
i.e., the B in Submariner, the right side looks sloppy and over inked. Also, notice the where the E cuts off on SUPERLATIVE... things begin to jump out... |

I saw the short stroke "E" also. Agree about the "B" as well. I have seen original examples that looked worse. I try to remember that it was the 70's, and quality control was not always great. Remember the 70's...bell bottom jeans, long hair, and the Ford Pinto. I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with bell bottom jeans and long hair. The Pinto, however... . Otherwise it looks ok to me.

This watch actually looks pretty superb. Dial is very attractive, and has great patinaed original markers and matched hands. Guessing from what little I can see of the bezel and crownguards, I'm optimistic the case could be great also.

Rest of the watch looks good. Bracelet looks good, case has been polished but is still good.
Been in the market for an honest red sub for awhile now. I still want to give it some thought. I appreciate everyone's input and help. Will keep everyone posted if I decide to go for this one. I did notice the E which appears to me slight dial damage. Some of the dial text looks a little fuzzy and sloppy, but I do agree that some of these inconsistencies have been seen before from this era. The second hand has a crack in the lume which kinda bothers me. The watch has its faults for its age but I have seen way worse. In the end it all depends on price. |

Looks very nice indeed to me. May be a minor crack across the minute hand lume as well, but that wouldn't bother me. Gorgeous.

Looks a beauty, here's a pic of my MK6 when came from a RSC service for dial font comparison. There is one for sale on Andrew Shears site too for comparison.

What do you all think a fair price would be on a sub like that with fat lugs, original folded link oyster bracelet, box, anchor, tags, no papers tho.
Andrew shear is asking 16k for his and the bracelet on his is a newer replacement it seems. |

Also budget about 1k for service and some parts if required, is the one you looking at fullly professionally serviced?

No, but the entire watch is in very nice condition. Doesn't need anything really.

That example is a beauty, without the original warranty papers am guessing 8-9 k plus maybe something if the accessories are period correct, can you post pics of the accessories? Also do check if your insert is the correct fat font insert for the period(different versions of fat font inserts exist and replacements are very pricey), am not sure how to tell even after looking at writeups, the number widths play with my eyes:). Wait for the other members here to advice on prices since have not been in the market of recent. Looking at Andrews listing, though that watch is a beauty and complete, looks like prices have shot up really high recently for feet firsts going by that price of 16.8k. Last time I looked they were about 14-15k for a complete set with the known dealers.

my understanding is andrew typically sells very high grade quality variants of particular models - perhaps this is why there is a bit of a premium?
it is interesting, though, because eric ku also has two reds listed that are around 14k - but neither seem to have papers - so maybe B&P really do command about 2500k? |

Where do you see 2 non B&P red subs with Eric Ku for 14k, I only see one with B&P for 14.5k, unless I am searching wrongly.

sorry! i was reading the description of the two watches (which said no accessories) and didnt bother to read the large print title, indicating B&P!
i thought there are two on eric's site - one for 13.8 and one for 14.5. so, i guess im wondering - eric and andrew are both well known, premium sellers? i wonder why the pricing discrepancies? is there something more desirable in one of them across these three? |

Here are som more pics.
Just confused because it seems for any kind of good condition red sub, they are all over 13k + these days. For this watches age, the bracelet looks amazing with minimal stretch, the cornet is still crisp on the clasp, it has the correct folded clasp bracelet, the crystal looks great, original top hat. The insert looks fat but not as fat font as others I have seen, it looks fatter than a recent serve replacement tho. The dial is stunning. Can anyone comment about the box being period correct to the watch? I been in the market for a Red sub feet first for a while now and I have never seen one in great condition priced in the 8 to 9 k price range. I barley see red subs for sale even. |

Looks very nice. Wondering if the box should have been a Seahorse one or this one too is correct for some markets during that era, just double check that. Also check the insert for the correct fat font. True most would be 13k+ but without the papers their values drop between 8k-12k depending on condition, seller(private/dealer) etc. Private sales are usually about 8-9k unless is an exceptional watch which only the experts here can tell by case condition, etc. that deserves a premium. Others more experienced here will chime in but watch looks very nice to me.
