Great score!

I wasn't as "close" as what I thought...

Boy, you guys(and gals)have a real passion for writing and really get into the whole collecting of writing instruments. It's always fun to see someone enjoy their hobby and the chase is most of the fun. I am into collecting American coins with a speciality in U.S. Large Cents produced between 1792 and !857 by die variety. The coins I chase are mainly from 1840 to 1857 and dabble when I can into the earlier ones. Die varieties happen when different die pairs are placed into the presses to mint the coins. Of course there is a grading system to evaluate each coin's condition and that is where the fun begins!!!

Just a quick picture.
Rhodium plated 149. Everything except the nib is plated rhodium, as MB does not sell a platinum plated 149 with resin. (They do sell a solid platinum 149 but that's US$24k rrp.)

I'm expecting 3 more pens within the next 2 weeks - another 149, a very special 146 and another WE. Stay tuned.

Not fair, you must be the 149 king

How do you rate the quality of the rhodium plating?

WOW Kai.
That Rhodium plating suites the 149 to a tee! I think MB should offer both variants as it obviously works!

Well done and I am looking forward to the next enstalment of Mr Mont Blancs grand adventure

In fact that gives me an Idea. who is up for Kai changing his forum name to MRMB Surely with such a fine collection Kai deserves that title

I think John Mottishaw could do rhodium plating on the nib to match if you were interested. That would be the final touch IMHO to make the pen complete

John could also give the nib a bit of a personal touch too while he was doing the plating.

Thanks guys! There are many others with way better collection than mine.

Following is a closeup of the cap band imprint. The craftman did an excellent job in plating the bands.

BTW, if another member is interested in getting one, pm me your name and email, and I'll forward it to the craftsman so that he can deal directly with you.
In order to ensure his quality, the craftsman supplied a new 149 for the plating. FWIW, I paid near full 149 US retail price for this pen, plus postage and bank fees.

It's beautiful, Kai! And nice "quick" shot! After handling a 149 last weekend for the first time, I can see why you love them. I'm smitten and one is on my short list.

Joji, that is Eric on FPN. He is "niksch" there. Really a great guy, and very knowledgeable about all things MB.

Eric put together a 146 for me to try. It wasn't perfect cosmetically, but that wasn't what it was about. Sent it unsolicited.

I had missed the 60's vintage 149 with EF that Kai picked up. Had several PMs back and forth. Eric sent the 146 just so I could try a MB, compare the size of the 146 with a 149, and see how they write. In particular, that the nib he found that was a fine leaning to EF... He suggested the nib I desired was probably more readily available in the 146, so he didn't want me to rule that out.

Hated to send the pen back, but hopefully he will come across something similar.

I can attest to what Jim mentioned, Eric is a top guy and his description of pens is very conservative and precise, also a fountain of knowledge on MB. BTW, his avatar in FPN is drool material

I will have to check Eric out on FPN, is he a trader in Mont Blancs as well. I know I will be wanting to purchase an older 149 at some time and it is nice to know someone who I can trust and yours and Jim's recommendation is all the validation I need

I wouldn't say he is a trader, but a true collector. Traders don't have passion in the items as this can affect their judgments.

I previously mentioned I'm going to get a couple more pens. Just received a MB146 today. It's quite special because I believe it's genuine but it's also unique. Sorry for so many pictures, but what's special about this pen? In terms of age, this one should be quite similar to the one Joji purchased a few days ago.

Going to pick up another pen tomorrow. This one will be a ripper

Congrats on the 146, Kai. And don't ever apologize for putting up too many pictures. There's no such thing.

Thanks guys. The uniqueness is on the cap star. It's a 5 point star instead of the usual 6 points. I believe this cap top is an aftermarket mod for the middle east market, but I'm trying to consult other pen experts on how valid it is.
