Anyone have a Mont Blanc Pen? My wife got me this one for my birthday.

A lovely gift. I had a Montblanc rollerball in the late 1980s. However, when I was visiting the ladies room at work it fell through a hole in my skirt pocket and was flushed down the toilet, never to be seen again. True story!

Montblanc makes a great pen - like Rolex (and any finely engineered and manufactured product) it takes a great beating and keeps working, and will be, after years and years, a still beautiful piece.

That is, unless you flush it down the toilet.

My girlfriend, way before my wife came around, and I think I had another girlfriend in there too somewhere, gave me the bordeaux colored pen for B-day in 91/92?
so its 16/17 years old and 3 refills later ( i think) still going. I dont use it much anymore
since I stopped working and its a miracle I did not lose it.
She paid 88 dollars? back then and I thought that was crazy for a pen, I get them free in hotels. ....I would never pay that kind of money for one but some people think they are worth it.

I've had this Meisterstuck Ballpoint since 2003, and I've gone through plenty of refills along the way. I believe I paid $225.00 (I think they've since gone up in price), and for me it's been worth every penny. I always wanted one when I was younger, and I truly do love to write. No other pen I own writes as smoothly or feels so comfortable in my hand. I carry the Space Pen in the picture with me pretty much everywhere I go. It is extremely compact when closed, but expands into a full sized pen, and can write on just about any surface, from any angle. It's extremely convenient to have it. If you're looking at Montblancs, I would stay away from the rollerballs and fine liners, and go with a ballpoint instead for every day use.

I carry a gold plated space-pen as well. Really it's a good pen for all the reasons you cited, compact and doesn't poke a hole in my pocket.

I used a Mont Blanc roller ball for quite a few years at work..

I also have my grandfathers Schaeffer pens from the 1940's.. there is a robust pen collector community out there.

I've owned this one for about 2 years - Meisterstuck Solitaire Carbon Fiber Steel. Love the pen...it goes everywhere with me. I've always wanted a MB, but could never bring myself to buy one. I think the classic black are sweet...but I'm a sucker for carbon fiber & steel.

Looking back, I don't think I would pay this kind of $ again for the pen ($500+), but I'm glad I did it back then. It didn't feel like I was spending that kind of cash at the time due to the fact that I got HOT on a craps table in Vegas...in less than 20 mins I was up a little over $1K...when it ended, I walked. I bought my wife a new iPod she wanted and I got my MB - win/win (literally). Cheers.

I have a Meisterstück 149 that I bought over 20 years ago but I write with another fountainpen. The other pen is 'the' Fischer Space Pen.

Are you kidding? They are fragile as hell. Drop in on the tile once and it is history!!

No. I'm not kidding. I've several MBs and have dropped, kicked and stepped on almost all of them. They're all still working and look great. Sorry your experience was different......

I disagree. While I'll admit I baby my pen, I do remember the first week I owned it a friend borrowed it while signing something in my kitchen. Sure enough it went flying out of his hand and it was like a slow-motion car wreak as I watched it fall to the ground & bounce a few times off my ceramic tile floor. I was petrified it was going to be ruined...but sure enough, not a scratch or mark on it. That was my only real 'war story' with this MB, but it came through with flying colors (and that was no sissy drop by the way). Cheers.

I love the MB pens. Lost count after my 5th Limited Edition.

My favorite is my Montblanc Agatha Christie. My daily writer is a le-grand with green ink.

Eric, I decided to take some more pictures of mine: the engraving on the clip and a hand shot, if such a thing exists for pens (similar to the wrist shot?)

Tools: I have that same burgundy generation, but mine has a nasty crack where you unscrew it to replace the ink. I don't care much for the pen because it only accepts fine liner or roller ball cartridges. I'm a much bigger fan of the ball point because of the smoother writing. If they made a cartridge that wrote like a bold needle point I would be all over it. So unfortunately this pen sees no use.

I'm absolutely freakin' goofy for Montblanc. Just got the George Bernard Shaw about a month ago, so I have all the Writer's Series pens (17 so far - my absolute favorite is the Marcel Proust) along with a half-dozen or so others. There is a great Montbland boutique here in Houston...the owner gives me 20% off and free refills - Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!
