......And then I started looking at the Skydweller
So far I have been a one watch man.
After an Omega Seamaster, my first Rolex was a brand new Y series Flat 4 LV. That was stolen. I replaced it with a steel Yachtmaster, but never really bonded with it as I found it difficult to read the time and the bezel scratched. Then, the BLNR was released and I fell in love with it and got one in 2014. I love the watch. More than happy. Forget watches and get on with my life. I then find this place....... And in due course the Steel Skydweller is released and I don't particularly like it. But I come on here and start seeing people getting excited about them (with the blue dial especially) and it starts to interest me. The more I look at them, the more the appearance grows on me. Sporty, but dressy too. I do some research and see the complications and how the Ring Command work on Youtube and realise its an absolutely amazing watch! All the functions are genuinely useful in everyday life. I keep the GMT function, but also gain the slick calendar and monthly date change, but without it looking fussy and complicated. I now realise its my perfect watch. Of course, now I want one, I find the blue is second only to the Daytona in availability. But the itch has started......it needs to be my next watch for life. Just need to find one at retail (black dial would do too) |

I had an opportunity to see one in person, it is a beauty. The annual calendar certainly has its advantages and I loved the finish of the watch. I think this is on my list too!

I agree the blue dial SD is a beautiful watch. Good luck in the hunt, hope you’re able to grab one soon...gotta put in the work!

Go for it, it’s really a great piece of horology. Blue or black dial will do, most prefer blue but don’t sleep on the black sunburst, it’s a real looker in person... Good luck in your search..

Extremely nice watch!
I had the blue dial one but has since sold it for a Daytona. It was however one of the coolest watches I ever had. Blue dial was gorgeous, movement inside was top notch with fun functions. Dressy but still sporty, I wore mine with everything. |

It’s a stunning watch indeed. I got offered a white which I thought I wouldn’t want (as I’ve a white Daytona) but as soon as I saw it I loved it.

Funny!
I too was just commenting on another thread, how it is a perfect combination of my DJ II Arabic, and my GMT II BLNR. I wouldn't say I am 100% certain I like it more than my BLNR, but it has definitely turned my head. |

I'm glad you shared your thoughts about certain attributes of the Sky-Dweller: how it balances sportiness with elegance; its complications that are truly useful; its ingenious controls and displays that serve to "hide" the complications. I agree that these attributes make it truly special in the world of complicated watches. I know everyone loves the blue one, but I think black would be my choice Also, this is one Rolex model that I think works beautifully as a steel and gold watch. I think you're destined to have one! |

I have owned two PM Sky Dwellers and they are fine watches. I would offer to you that you should go try them on before you make a purchase. I did not like the busy dial after a short period and I had no use for the complication. Went back to a DD II. To each their own but I have tried to stop letting TRF, as much as possible, influence me with the hype that goes with new releases or hard to get watches. Good luck on your journey.

Appreciate all the replies.....but feck!
I now think I need the BLNR and a black or blue Sky Dweller! For a one watch man this is worrying. I don't want to become a full blown WIS.......as it will end up taking over my life. Sex and cars are bad enough. |

White dials seem more available than black and blue.
But I struggle with the eligibility of the dial (cr@p eyesight) and I learned from the Plat YM that its the most important thing for me. |

After starting the thread, I went in and put my deposit down for a black dial at the AD yesterday.
ETA about 12 months. |

......And then I started looking at the Skydweller
Bought one and got to say after getting over the honeymoon stage of any watch, i didn’t like the design, it’s just too chunky and way too similar to the DateJust 2 id had for years, so wasn’t very exciting to have on the wrist.
Flip side, I love the complication and ease of use of complication, a fantastic annual calendar. So depends if you like the design, I’d recommend trying one on and if you like it just buy grey rather than going on a long waiting list. |

The SkyD is gorgeous to me! Just know that it does wear a bit larger than the previous watches you’ve owned, if that matters at all to you for daily wear.. if you’ve had any type of history with an AD, the black and white isn’t too difficult to get in a sensible amount of time... however.. another option I would advise is to check the trusted sellers like DavidSW or takuya because I’ve seen them recently for approx $16k... which is basically what retail plus tax is anyway, and no wait, no fuss and you get it right away! Good luck

The dealer I went to said the blue Skydweller is less obtainable for them than a Daytona.
The black about a year wait and I would be top of the list for a white. They were quite thorough with the getting though, but I have bought from them before and am local. Which all helps. I am fine with a 12 month eta. I am thinking that of keeping the BLNR and getting the Skydweller as well, so time to get £10k lined up. But that will be it!! A two watch man and no more. I may even remove the bookmark for here |

If you already have a nice watch (which you do) I don’t think waiting a year for another that you really want is too much of a big deal. It’s basically the new normal in the world of Rolex.
