Yes the good old days before Rolex watches become thought of as little more than £££$$$ object things. And greedy sellers started the crazy prices that many were willing to pay.And while there are those willing to pay the crazy prices, afraid it's doubtful the good old days will return.

Yes agree Rolex watches are special but as to being rare most certainly not, with at one time over a million produced each year now closer to 800000 plus.

I have to think it wasn’t for sale. This was really hot, even in 2018. But if it was for sale...yikes. You missed a good one.

A quick search on Chrono24 and I saw 501 Daytona’s and 1,695 Submariner’s listed. To get one it’s only a credit card payment away. Melodramatic much?

This was available, but I had to take a 2 tone datejust at a very inflated price too. When I did the sums, it worked out to be the same as the grey market price at that time. With the benefit of hindsight, I should have taken it.

BTW, they also had a blue skydweller and an SD43 in that dealer that day. The staff were really good and friendly, but the manager was a grinch.

Reminds me of Mappin and Webb, now WOS in Cambridge in the mid 90's,always a full range on display.
Also the Rolex AD we used to see at major UK 5 star horse events, got my second sub and DJ from their portable shop, good times,if only we had the disposable wealth in those days.
To put it in perspective I was paying 16% interest on my mortgage in those days!

Just because it was in the window doesn't mean it was available for sale. There's no price tag anywhere near that Daytona, and it was already late in a day back in mid 2018 to purchase anything decent, so I don't think you have anything to regret for.

As I stated, I had this watch in hand, and could have bought it, but the manager insisted that I bundle it with an overpriced two tone 36mm DJ. So I walked away that day.

Rolex ADs in China are notorious for bundling.

It’s not just China. That practice is prevalent in all of East Asia, possibly even all of Asia. Maybe except Japan cos it’s an economic backwater.

Would love to see somebody charm the pants off an AD here in this part of the world and getting a Pepsi or something.

When it comes to distribution of popular models, there is only one direction ADs are headed as consolidation of ADs continues apace.

Yeah, agreed. I am well aware of the situation in HK/TW/SG... I charmed the skirt off an AD and got a ‘Shawn Yue’ Daytona for a friend of mine.

Every year after that it started getting more and more attention with rumors every year until it finally did in 2020.

The demand for watches today is through the roof, kinda of sad we can’t even walk into most brands to see a watch we might be thinking of.

Then 5 years later the market collapses and you find yourself upside down while everyone around you buys nicer houses for less money than you did
