Hello from New York City!

Hello everyone!

I have a 13 year old perpetual date just. I was on vacation in St. Vincent and realized that there was a tiny amount of moisture showing under the crystal. When I checked the crown it was slightly loose--maybe a quarter of a turn less than sealed position. I realized that I must not have completely tightened the crown when I advanced the date to July 1st.

I just got home last night and there are no signs of moisture anymore. I am pretty certain that the watch was only exposed to quick dips in the plunge pool and not to the ocean before I thoroughly sealed the crown. I have read other posts on moisture but does anyone know if it is OK to leave this as it is?

BTW, this watch was a gift to me from someone who worked at Rolex and it was a "once in a lifetime" accommodation. Funny things is though, my watch has always run about three minutes fast. No matter what I have tried it always finds its way back to three minutes fast. After the moisture incident, it now is keeping time exactly--weird!

Thank you for any suggestions you might have.

Welcome to TRF, rasrob. I would certainly suggest you have the timepiece serviced and regulated. The inaccuracy issue as well as moisture inside the case need attending to.

Hi Rasrob, Welcome to TRF

Sheldon is spot on, is any moisture is in the movement it will need to have a service before there is any damage, a service will certainly sort that out, and the moisture will also be messing around with the regulation of the watch, I had a similar thing happen to my DJ, luckily just before its last service so it was sorted nice and quick.

My DJ is 15 years old and is spot on with its timekeeping, well good enough for me :-)

Look after that DJ and you'll see many more years of service

Enjoy,

Dave.

Welcome to TRF! Since your watch now is accurate, I would not send it in for service. Also the moisture is gone...that is luck!
