Incoming! (Passed down from father)

Was chatting with my father today about watches and I brought up the Rolex my mom purchased for him 30 years ago. He said he hasn’t worn it over 20 years (mom and dad have been divorced for 20 years), and it should be mine now. Feels great to have a family piece that is older than I am!

Wound it up and starting ticking! From the first 12 hours it seems like it is keeping great time, but it hasn’t been serviced or even worn for 20+ years, so I’ll definitely be bringing it by my local AD for a quick review.

Great new addition and now my Rolex collection is two!

Rolex watches are great in itself, but the stories I hear behind them are so intriguing. Sometimes more meaningful then the watch itself. Wear it in good health, it’s gorgeous

Congratulations mate.
That's a nice piece you got there. Not every gets a Rolex from loved ones. Cheers!

The TT DJ is one of the best watches in my humble opinion.

I totally love mine and look forward to wearing it.

Even better with a family connection, well done and enjoy

Nice, I'd give it a service direct to a RSC (pass on the AD)

IMG_0195.jpg On my 50th my Father gifted me his red 1680 I grew up watching him wear from when I could remember, he bought it in ‘69. It’s my grail and I’ll pass it on to my Son. I gifted him my 116613LN and he was over the moon like me. Enjoy the journey

Two things:
1) I thought they have a 30 year limit? Or is that wrong?
2) Wouldn't they polish it, I'd rather find a good watchmaker who would service the movement without replacing dial, hands and polishing the case.

1. No age limit on RSC servicing older watches they send them to Lititz, PA.
and you can ask them to just service the movement and leave the dial and case.

i just sent my 1987 day-date to rolex service in new york city. they had no issues servicing a 32 year old watch. btw, they did an awesome job.

Nice, my story is similar too, I just got my dads 1975 1016. However I got mine due to my father passed away. Enjoy the time with your father. The time is more important than the watch and I'm sure you realize that. Believe me, I'd toss both my rolex's in the river for 5 more minutes with him.
