Does this sound fishy...considering online purchase
I am looking for a little help. I am considering purchasing a watch on line but there are a few things that I think are unusual. I have never purchased from an online vendor so maybe some of you could chime in and let me know if this sounds fishy.
I searched chrono24 for a watch that I have been interested in and found relatively few available. I contacted one of the dealers via chrono24. They responded and we started a conversation via email and text. We agreed on terms for trading in my watch and my total out of pocket expense. I then started asking more questions about the transaction. I tried to call so that we could have a more fluid discussion but he never answered the calls. I immediately sent him a text after one of the calls and he promptly responded saying he was traveling in Europe. So, we continued our discussion via text. We would do it as TWO transactions. First, he would wire me the money for my watch and I would send it to them. Then, two weeks later he would send me an invoice. I would pay the additional funds and he would ship the watch. When I asked why there was a two week delay he responded that the watch I wanted to buy was with his "AD friend" and he needed to sell the watch I was trading in to cover the watch I wanted to buy??? This sounds very fishy to me. What do you think? Thanks for sharing your opinions. -Mark |

Sounds fishy to you, sounds fishy to me too. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, guess what? It’s a duck.
No way would I do this.

I have no idea if it's fishy or not but Chrono24 is for buying and selling watches and Chrono acts like the middleman and keeps the money in escrow until the watch arrives with you AND you are happy. It's not like ebay where once the deal is done both parties do their thing, one sends money, the other sends the goods. There is a time delay with Chronos escrow system.
This trade in that you're talking about goes outside of that and is more complicated, so I'm not sure how this transaction should go. But it is 2 transactions. Basically it all comes down to you finding out is this guy or his company reputable with Chrono24 etc and do you want to take a chance on it. But it sounds like there is one Chrono24 transaction and then a private transaction. But like I said it is 2 separate transactions. I don't believe Chrono24 has a trade in options in any of their escrow services. |

Thanks for all the input. I thought this was strange...it sounds like a some kind of ponzi scheme. Having never purchased a watch online before I was not certain.
Buying the seller is valuable advice. How does one go about finding a reputable online seller? -Mark |

Nope,none of this is good.
Find a reputable dealer, and pay more if you have to. A few hundred bucks is nothing for peace of mind and guaranteed authenticity. Sent from the voices in my head and translated by their drinking buddy. |

Walk away. ALWAY BUY THE SELLER!!!! If it seems fishy, trust your intuition. If this is someone they normally buys and sells watches then he should have no issue getting what you want. Good luck to you.
