Submariner 5513 on Chrono24

I didn't know how to take the photos from the ad so I'm posting the link here. I'm hoping people can give me an opinion on this piece.

It's a relumed dial, potentially fake, on a much newer watch, with an even newer insert, from a seller with a bad reputation.

OK, thanks!

I'm looking for an older watch that looks decent in this price range but I obviously need some guidance.

You probably won't get a decent matte dial 5513 with a bracelet for $9k. So you will either need to expand your budget, or consider later models.

What do you think is a good budget? I was in Tokyo and saw a few nice ones in the $15-$20K range but again, I don't know what to look for and the people selling it seemed to know less than me. Just obvious things like the lume on the hands not matching the lume on the markers.

For a meters first 5513, you probably won't find a nice one for under $13,000.

Thanks! I'll check that out. Is this the appropriate area to ask for opinions when I find one?

I can't tell you how much this description pisses me off.

Dial Original Professionally Relumed Rolex 'Meters First' Black Dial

This is the slimiest of language.

Box Yes, this item includes an elegant cushioned presentation watch case. (Pictured)

Papers Yes, this item will include a Collectors Coins & Jewelry certificate of appraisal and authenticity as per buyer request.

Like this jerk doesn't know what 99.9% of people consider box and papers.

Might as well include a cereal box and newspaper. Yep, has a box and papers with it alright.

Have you been to Honolulu Time and spoken with David?

The owner might have something tucked in the back in his personal collection he is willing to let go. At the very least you can have a chat and learn more about what to look for.

I did a trade with him back in 2012. He has a lot of good stuff tucked away he pulled out 3-4 Red Subs and let me pick which one I wanted during a trade.

Here is an honestly described Gilt 5513 with some flaws, but some charm and character he has listed:

Thanks. Yes, I know David pretty well and I've bought from him in the past. He actually called me about this Gilt and I am going to go look at it.

In my case it's probably best that I have him help me find something that fits my budget. I can see how this will cost me a lot if I try to find a nice bargain and end up buying some crap.

If you were knowledgable and confident enough to go bargain hunting for yourself, then at the moment I think you could find something decent for $11k-$12k (unserviced), from another collector or on eBay. If you're more comfortable buying from a dealer or high-volume forum seller, then you should budget something in the range of $15k.

I am not talking about a pristine unpolished collector-quality piece, box&papers, or the most desirable variants (e.g. Mk1 maxi), just a solid, appealing, wearable matte dial 5513.

Almost $21,000 for flaking lume, hand drag marks, and a NATO strap?? Wow!

Comes with a bracelet also. Doesn’t get much cheaper for a gilt 5513.
