Heading to Portugal...which Rolex to bring?

Wife and I are headed to Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve this weekend for a couple weeks. 100% bringing the Seiko Save the Ocean for some water activities, but what else? Do I bring the 16710 for GMT purposes? Or pack the DD40 ("is it safe??" j/k)? I think the Hulk stays behind because I just don't have it insured for it's current value

Anway, looking forward to your thoughts, and of course the vacation!

I do not know the level of safety of Portugal but that rose chocolate day date is BEAUTIFUL!

Go at least once a year. Love it there.

Debated on going to Cascais but with the trip to the Algarve, we figured we'd get all the beach we needed. Looks like a great town though!

Thank you! I do wish it had a glidelock feature, but otherwise it is an amazing piece.

You will pay everywhere more with a rolex for sure.... Watch out in cities for thieves happens a lot there. I go few times a year to her family would leave my watches at home rather. Beautifull country though

I don't know about that paying more theory. Especially doubtful if he wears a SS piece. Most people don't recognize watches.

I spent a week in Paris recently with a YG Sub and it got little notice and I doubt I paid more for any of my croissants.

And thefts can happen anywhere and everywhere, just because you are out of your comfort zone does not mean you are more likely to be a victim of theft. Maybe even the opposite.

I am glad I don't live in fear.

Portugal is extremely safe. I walked around wearing a Rolex and short sleeves day and night, everywhere you are going.

Without a single problem or glance.

This is coming from a guy who walked around the Naples and Rome train stations , too, without a problem.

Lisbon and Porto are child's play compared to Orlando or Tampa.
I've been in Portugal a lot and I've worn my Rolex without any problems.
In Orlando and Tampa I brought a Seiko and on more than one occasion I left it at the hotel and went out without a watch.

I feel safer in Portugal than in Florida

I am also going to Portugal in August with the wife, we are flying into Lisbon and going North to Porto and return to the US from Porto.
I have grappled with this situation, and to be 100% safe I leave the good stuff home, and wear a beater. Will you be OK, probably, but I say "why take the chance if you do not have to". Wife is leaving all her jewelry home except a cruddy spacer ring that goes between the ER and WB. Good luck.

I do tend to agree with your sentiments, though at the same time I can't get pictures like the 3rd one above (both steel Rolexes are going to my two kids, and I want them to see me wearing these in action before I pass them along) without bringing them. FYI, that pic was taken while in Singapore, which doesn't compare since it's one of the safest / most sterile places in the world.

Let tell it like this:
When they mention you are not portuguese they will even let you pay more, and yes.. They will certainly be attracted by Rolex(es)
Maybe not in every place, but the places i know are certainly just seeking unneccesary attention. Portugal is a beautifull country but to tourists people can look differently there than when you understand the language and people there Lol i hope i am allowed to tell so, my woman and her whole family are from there
I come there few times a year on family visit and i will to make sure just not putt on my Rolex ik played with the idea though but also my girlfriend and her parents told me better not..

I had a 5980/1R on in Lisbon; sleeves down. Never came out to see daylight especially in crowded places.

You're insured for your daydate so you should be ok to walk around with that.

I commuted from the US to Lisbon and stayed there 3 weeks a month for 6 months. No problems or concerns at all wearing either my Daytona, Seadweller, or Panarai. Portugal is awesome!!!
