Engraving caseback

Recently got a YG sky dweller rhodium stick dial.

When i bought the watch at the AD i asked them if it was possible to engrave the caseback , they told me they could do it but would be a couple of weeks turn around time.

Next week i will be gone on a 10 day motorcycle trip and don't plan to wear the watch , so i could actually use that time for it to be off.

What are this forums taught on having a caseback engraved?

This is a watch i will hopefully wear for the next 50 years , not as a daily but still.
I don't want to engrave anything fancy just my name .

looking forward to responses

I have mixed feelings on engraving. I like the idea if my children/grandchildren will inherit the watch and appreciate it as a fine time piece and something Dad appreciated. But in case the family does not appreciate it and just wants/needs the money and wants to sell it, I am not sure I would want it engraved. It may make it more difficult to sell and may lower the resale cost. I did have the back of my Rolex engraved with my name and year but have not done it to any of my other watches.

Love the Skydweller!

I had my LVc engraved by the AD. The laser etching is so light I couldn’t read it without my glasses on. Lol.
No worries...it can easily be removed or you can buy a new case back should you so desire in the future.

You'll get people here freaking out that you had it engraved, but in reality the case backs are easily replaced and are fairly inexpensive (more for you since it's YG).
And, since your SkyD isn't going anywhere you may as well have it personalized the way you want
Now on to more important things, which AMG?

Also have this one, really enjoy it,

I haven’t engraved a watch in a while, but 10 days sounds like a lot, they did one while I waited one time and it was extensive.

If you engrave it and then go on to do something amazing and get famous (not in a bad way of course) then it will be worth millions. So get it engraved and then discover Atlantis or a cure for baldness. enjoy.

i might be too late for Atlantis as some claim it location was the Richat structure in the african desert ...

and the cure for baldness might be toilet paper , i have been rubbing it on my ass for years and i have plenty of hair there now

i think i might just go for the engraving

I don’t see the purpose of engraving it at all. Am I missing something? Will it help you identify your watch if it gets mixed up with another!? Save your money.

If you bought your Sky D from an AD which I'm guessing you did. Have them order you a new caseback to have engraved. Save the one that came with the watch and you will have the best of both.

Engraving caseback

Man that skydweller is so sick. That’s on my radar next. It’s like a big brother to my YG sub. I was thinking bout engraving the back also since I bought this watch in celebration of my wife being pregnant with our first child. Might engrave my daughters initials and DOB once she’s here

If you plan on keeping it forever then just get it engraved. Personally, I wouldn't bother, but that's just me!

It's not a C63S interior. The driver's aid switches are in the incorrect position. Not to mention, the steering wheel is a pre-facelift and the car has a digital gauge cluster. Digital clusters weren't available till model year 2019 for the W205 C63.

Do it, if it's special to you it will add even more meaning to the watch.

I read somewhere in an article that Rolex case backs are kept clean so that the buyer can engrave their achievements/ company sign/ DOB of some one close, etc etc to give it an emotional attachment.

I would find someone to do a light laser engraving. That will give you flexibility in the future to have it removed easily from the case back by someone skilled in watch refinishing or, as others have suggested, have the case back replaced.

By the way, I love my Sky Dweller and it’s rapidly becoming my favorite watch.

Up to you, of course. I think I’ll leave my own case backs blank, except, of course, the one I wear when I walk on the moon. I’ll definitely engrave that one.

My AD will engrave the case back at no charge. I have a few.... my 10 year anniversary and a his and hers 20th anniversary pair. Obviously these are keepers.

As mentioned its only a caseback. If you ever decide to sell it is easily swapped.

Now my wife on the other hand... she's a keeper!

So i did go ahead and had my watch engraved , chuffed to bits at how it looks very glad i had this done as it was my first rolex and a milestone ... blurred out my last name for obvious reasons but here's a pic... love the way the light interacts with the lettering

Just seems strange to me that you have the title Mr engraved on your own watch.
If I was engraving a watch for myself it would just be my name or initials; it would never be Mr Longwool.
Must be a cultural thing.
It would also look better as free hand script engraving rather than mechanical engraving on such a beautiful watch.

i wrote the Mr N , half serious half as a joke, the serious part most of you will understand , as i am proud of it and the achievement but then the not so serious part its also to annoy my fiancee a bit as she loves to call the watch her watch, and now every time i can point out to her :but does it have your name on it no it say's mr n just a bit of banter

Good move if it get handed down cool. If it gets sold no biggie case-back easily replaced.
