Guys

I rather luckily won myself an all expenses paid jaunt to the F1 end of month, 8 days of F1 style party time. 10 of us are going via a work thing.

Thing is, I have never been to an F1 event let alone my dream race in Europe.

In fact I have never been to Europe period. For those of you that have been to Monaco or better still, to this F1 event before, please do share tips and traps so I am a little better prepared for what I suspect will be a fantastic trip.

Hey steve, one of our friends graciously offered to take three of us to F1 in Monaco a few years ago, all expense paid. He covered flight via private, hotel and all cover charge to get into the clubs. Some of these clubs had a cover of about 10k for four of us! Myself and another one of my buddies decided that we would pay all gratuities for any clubs, casino and restaurants as we felt terrible. Well, the gratuities for all the clubs, restaurants and casino still cost us $35,000. That weekend is so expensive, the richest of rich in the world are there that weekend and everyone wants to get into the popular clubs and venues. Bring lots of cash and credit cards.

I've never been to Monaco, let alone for the F1GP, but went to the North American GP in Montreal almost a decade ago. It was a BLAST. Prices for goods & services will most likely be hiked-up due to the influx of visitors, so I'd say be prepared to spend some cash. (I see you said "all expenses paid," but I take that to mean airfare, tickets & hotel, not for food, libations, taxis & partying.) I would recommend picking up a pair of foamies (the ear protectors that you jam in your ear canal) that you can stuff into your pocket. There is nothing "wussy" about protecting two organs that cannot heal themselves from permanent damage.

That’s the extent of my advice

We annually give away an all expenses paid week at any motorsports event around the globe to a random Worker of the Year. Even with our connections to the ASN & FIA, best organizer rates, Monaco is by far the most expensive event we see. Been doing that for over 10 years and we can’t get a handle on the extra costs.

The most reasonable? COTA...

Monaco you say? Bring lots and lots of... and even then, unless you're well-connected you might find it hard to get into certain restaurants, etc. Have fun and enjoy the race :)

Ear plugs are an excellent tip, thanks. As for the folding green stuff, yeah i figured I will need to be well funded because of the location and event even though they are covering clubs, meals, drinks etc... I dont' intend to hit the casino so should not rack up a stupendous tab.

Any tips on places to go or avoid also appreciated. Might have to dust off my TAG Monaco for the trip ;)

WOW Great catch , Monaco is a world of its own so no worries if its your first GP only tip would be just enjoy yourself and wear your best watch. Iv never been to the GP there but iv driven the circuit in a mini moke lol. Enjoy

All I know is I've walked through that tunnel, and it felt a lot longer than what those cars zip through it at. Very impressive place, astronomical wealth. Do take the train to Nice and have a martini on the beach.

This is a good suggestion, as far as where to go in Monaco. Someplace else.
Monaco is much smaller than Central Park, NY. You can get around it in less than a day. The “hot spots” are self evident when you are there. You’ll definitely find them.
But if possible do take a day trip. I went to the village of Eze which, as best I can recall, was only about 25 minutes away. It’s a medieval town and worth a visit.

Even on F1 weekend you can change vibe by walking up to the old town. Go to the Maritime Museum up there...

Congrats!

They will probably be setting you up in a viewing area to see the race make sure to take it in from there. Monaco puts up metal blockades on the railings of walkways around the city during the race so spectators can’t see without a ticket.

Monaco is over the top, no matter when you go. I was there a few years ago, a week before the race. It was so cool to see everything getting set up and watching the race trucks try and negotiate these impossibly narrow streets.

What surprised me was just how steep the road is from Sainte Devote up to Beau Rivage through Massenet and down into Casino Square. It's a lot steeper than it looks on TV.

The casino doesn't open until 1400 hours, and there is a dress code; read, "No Shorts or T-Shirts. As an avid F1 fan, I'm very jealous. Have a great time!

I've been to a couple of F1 races (Singapore & Montreal) and the vibes are just different. Lively and fun.

Lucky you as Monaco is my ultimate F1 race to go to.

I’ve just been to Barcelona GP.

No need for earplugs. F1 cars are very quiet.

The feeder series cars F2/F3 Porsche Supercup are much louder.

Very jealous. It’s a bucket list item for me. F1 is F1, but the Monaco GP is something else.
You definitely need to take the Heuer Monaco if you’re going to the Monaco Grand Prix!
My wife has travelled all around the coast there on several business/pleasure trips with her old company. They owned a medical device company based nearby. Monaco was her least favorite place. Go there for the racing and elsewhere for pretty much everything else. There are some cool old medieval walled village towns up in the mountains not far from the coast. Grasse is also nearby if you’re into fragrances. It’s the home of French perfumery.
Have a great trip! I hope to follow in your footsteps sometime soon.
