Check if it increases your property taxes. In NY pools and balconies increase the rate at which we are taxed.

30k plus inground. Being in IL i would put in a hot tub too. Here is mine. I would do salt not traditional chlorine.

With little kids, you need to watch all the time. If you’re having a party, you need to ask the parents if their children know how to swim. You’d be surprised how many kids just jump in or want to and have no idea on how to swim.

Knock wood, I’ve had mine since 2001 with no accidents or tragedies.

Set rules and enforce them, ie kick kids out of the pool if their antics become dangerous.

That’s why it’s a sports pool
3’ 4’ 6’ 4’ 3’

No real deep end.
Always close to where you can stand

But I did lock it up like Ft Knox when kids were little
including a locking gate for the deck
And no one went unsupervised !

We love our pool. It’s been trouble free, we really don’t worry about the cost of running it as it’s like having a private resort in our backyard. Kids love it, friends love it, everyone loves it. It’s kept 87 degrees from May thru October and gets shut down for the winter.

To the OP, pools are a lot of work if you're going to tackle it yourself. Also, check your local laws and ordinances. Pools are often considered a nuisance and can raise your home insurance. You will also have to build a fence around it. Local codes will determine what you need.

I throw 40lbs of salt in 3-4 times a year. It should last 30 years.
I’ll be here for another decade. Then I likely will be coming to the upstate.

Pics from your visit last fall!

This is kind of the exact pool I’m going for. What are the dimensions?

Maybe consider an SS pool installation.

If you go stainless steel, you’ll get a longer lifespan and the lower maintenance costs.

I’m not a pool owner - just know that half our neighbors who have them are in regular expensive maintenance with concrete/gunite.

Growing up in a northern climate had a gunite pool with waterfall and hot tub. It was amazing. A real resort feel once you get the landscaping and deck etc. I think it ran my mother about 60k with landscaping but that was over 15 years ago.

Like most we didn’t use it enough but I always loved having the hot tub. And when you’re in a hot tub it’s really great to be able to cool down in the pool.

Some day I will bite the bullet and put one in. Current house doesn’t have the yard for it really. Only half acre. I keep hoping my sister will do it first but that’s wishful thinking.

Another good thing about a pool beside swimming is the visual appeal and the sound that it makes. We most likely all live in subdivisions and have a little noise around us. A fountain in the pool helps to blend in all that noise and make your backyard much more enjoyable appearance. I also just like looking at water so that is good to. I just had my morning coffee and toast on the patio looking over the pool .

Just opened our pool a couple weeks ago. We love it except for the short season we have in Massachusetts. Whenever I’m out there I feel like I’m on vacation .

Plan the project to come in over budget. We went with an exposed aggregate deck which is less slippery than stamped concrete. We also went with the salt chlorine generator so we don’t have to throw chemicals into the pool as much. Electric heater is nice to have in the Spring and late Summer. We ended up dropping about $70k for everything.

You only go down the road once.
