Pp5960-01g-001
My AD received several new pieces and one that really caught my eye is the 5960/01G.
The blue dial, red hand accents along with the brown strap gave it a very sharp but casual look (which I like and looking for). Why isn’t though that there is not much love for the 5960 in general? Is it the production run time, combination with the AC complication, price point (I am not overly concerned about resale value) or other options that may be available with a chrono complication? I am seriously debating whether to look into this further and adding it to accompany my AP chronos or selling one/both and just have the PP as my chrono complication in my collection. Any insight would be appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was never a fan of the latest 5960 , if you are going for a patek chrono & AC , have a look at the 5905p , I have the black dial & love it , there is a blue dial

Honestly it’s too thick. It looks great face on but look from the side it’s like a hockey puck.
I’m hoping they release on that is thinner, perhaps by removing the rotor. It does have a power reserve after all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I tried it on recently and loved it. Not something I could figure how to fit into my collection, but it’s a cool watch and something I liked better than the 5524.

Cool watch but not for me. 5960 has taken a bit of a tumble

5905 would be my preferred choice too for an ACC.

For me, the ACC is not mandatory with the chrono but if i was looking for a somewhat more polished/dressier, 5905 or 5170 would definitely be on the radar. Haha duly noted! |

I'd still say check out a 5905p in blue, and then just get a tan strap like the one on the 5960...they make a 22mm version thats on the 5524, so it's not even difficult to grab, forgot if you have to use that buckle or your normal one works for that specific strap, but still. |

Agree with the above comment...i would get the 5905P blue dial instead.

The 5524 looks better in person than in pictures and feels great too. For me however, the case, dial layout, rubber strap, the 5164 sang to me more when
I was looking for a dual time complication (I considered the AP 26124 too). I would not rule out adding a 5524 to my collection but that would be down the road. |

I wear a 5960A with the white dial as my daily dress watch. A couple of observations: With the black gold hands and the black outer chrono sub-dial, legibility of just telling time suffers when either hand is over the chrono circles. I notice it when lighting isn’t ideal or I look at the watch obliquely. The hands can be hard to pick out over the chrono circles.
Also, not the first to observe that the thirty minute sub-circle makes reading the chrono non-intuitive. The newer 5905 has a single 60 minute chrono dial, which may or may not satisfy your chrono needs. Patek could have made the minute dial a full 60 minutes. Error. The bracelet is beautiful and comfortable. The thickness of the watch is not an issue for me even with French cuffs and 40mm is a large watch for my wrist. So to me, the size if fine. Also, the bezel is concave so it wears thinner at the edges. I love the annual calendar complication and think of it as Patek’s signature modern complication. For me the chrono is icing on the cake. I look at the power reserve more often than I would have expected. With an automatic you can’t otherwise tell how wound the watch is. The fifth complication (after automatic, chrono, annual calendar, power reserve) on the watch is the day/night aperture. Which the tails of the chrono hands cover halfway if the chrono is reset to zero. Error. I love the sporty look and other than between say 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock and other than between 20 to 40 minutes past each hour, when I notice the reduced legibility, it’s perfect. |

Resurrecting this thread a bit. I got a chance to check out this watch earlier this week and I was really impressed. I am a bit disappointed that I didn't get a chance to take any pictures but I could really see myself getting this. I still prefer the 5524G over this but with my reluctance to go through the grey market I could easily see myself getting this since it's a lot more readily available.

I've never understood the negativity to the 5960A. I bought it when it came out two or three years ago, and love wearing it. I notice that Patek has dropped it from the 2018 lineup. Maybe it will become more desirable as a discontinued model. But, I love mine.

i have seen both and own the 5524G. the latter has a much darker dial, more black than blue. or rather the blue comes out only under very direct light.

Finally had a chance to go back to my AD and try on the 5960 again. Taking into consideration opinions, insights from members and looking at the overall layout again, the design idiosyncrasies really started to standout.
Even though it’s still a very nice piece, I took a pass and decided on the 5990. It is a piece that was on my radar for quite some time and with the recent incomings and pics, basically pushed it over the top for me. I figured my AD would say maybe next year or longer but to my surprise they said I will be allocated one later this year, (said they have 2 coming...)...fingers crossed. |
