Sounds like be bought two fake Rolexes (unless the 2nd one was an oyster quartz) for the wrong reasons.

"The watch showed up, and it was obviously a fake. I took it to a jeweler, just in case, and he confirmed what I already knew.

But by then it was too late. In my head, I was a Rolex type of guy. So I bought another one-- a real one this time.

I loved my Rolex. I held it up to my ear to hear it tick. When I was bored in class, I'd watch the second hand's precise bursts to the next second."

Article sounds like he was trying to impress people and bought a rolex thinking it would get him some sort of admiration and acceptance by people. Instead people still didn't notice him.

In the middle of the article, he obviously met a TRF’er...

“But I was still the same person. No one even realized I had a Rolex-- or cared-- except for one creepy guy at a party who also had one.”

Maybe he was in Sweden and met a bearded one...

That was literally nothing more than a 500 word screed where the author notes that he prefers spending his money on certain things as opposed to others.

I am sure there are some guys like the article writer to which his opinions, characteristics and impressions refer and apply to. They certainly do not apply to all us fellow WIS at TRF.

Really should have stopped with just the title as no one really cares if you buy or wear a Rolex

Your coworkers might be jealous (they might not be forthcoming to helping you in your workload), your boss might think he’s paying you too much (he might not give you your yearly raises), your employee might think you are too rich and should be paying them more (they might resent you), your friends might think you are a show off, your clients might think that you are over charging them (they might haggle for a better deal). So let’s not pretend for a minute that no one cares that you are wearing a Rolex. It’s a great brand. I have three, but I don’t wear them in my office for these reasons.

It's a watch. Anyone with half a brain gets that.

I apologize for thinking that people will judge you differently when you wear a Rolex vs a Seiko or a Casio etc... how ignorant of me.

So he sat and watched his "real" Rolex precisely click to the next second? I hope he didn't pay much for that quartz movement.

For every career you can show was wrecked and ruined by a low EQ person having the audacity to wear a nice watch to the office, I’ll show you hundreds of successful entrepreneurs, corporate execs, and other professionals who are wildly successful while choosing to enjoy nice watches (and wear nice clothes, and luxury shoes, and drive luxury cars, and take expensive vacations, and...).

Hypothetically, if your staff/employee wears his Rolex to work and drives nice cars will you stop to think that you are overpaying them for their low EQ (or do you mean IQ) capacity ? Heck, if you are overpaying this person that much, then your IQ sir isn’t too far from his.
