5513 Question

I recently bought a '78 5513 that was overhauled - new dial, hands, crown, case back, etc in 2011. I enjoy good lume. The lume on the new dial is great but the hands fade quickly and are very narrow to read even in daylight for my 47 year old eyes. I am wondering if the thicker, blue lume hands from a 114060 would fit on my 5513?

Do you really want to turn it into a Frankenwatch?

I am personally sorry to hear the extent of your 1978 5513 "overhaul". That being said, I would leave it alone at this time....

Nothing wrong with a rejuvenated 5513, but I doubt the newer hands would fit. Here's mine.

Adam, That's a beautiful 5513. I have an original stock 5513 that I bought new in Switzerland in 1985. I recently brought it to the RSC in NYC, and they said they could service it, but would have to replace the beautiful domed crystal with a flat crystal. So I did nothing. Did you have yours refurbed at an RSC? Does yours have a new domed crystal?

They offered me the same thing. I said no thanks, and that was fine, except RSC made a note at the bottom of my receipt saying "not gauranteed waterproof'. I'm glad you mentioned this, because quite a few here questioned my sanity when I said RSC wanted to replace my dome with a flat crystal...said it couldn't be done.

I believe you got what is called the Service Dome.....which is pretty much flat, comparatively.

I really don't get people's obsession with lume. Are they sitting in dark closets, charging their lume with a flashlight ? I personally don't care about lume, how many situations are you ever in where there's not enough light to read your watch ?

Around 8 hours a day, or a third of my life. That said, lume isn't important to me, I grab the phone if I wake up and want to know the time.
