Possible defect on my Oyster Perpetual ref: 116000

Hello Gents,

I have recently purchased my first Rolex Oyster Perpetual. I am really satisfied with the watch so far. However, I noticed that the printing on the dial, specifically the alphabets O-Y and T-U-A-L in OYSTER PERPETUAL are not as dark as the other words.

Is this some form of QC issue or is it normal. If it is a QC issue, do I take it to the RSC or is it too irrelevant for that and I should just live with it ?

Thanks in advance, I really do appreciate it.

I suggest go to AD ask for exchange a new watch (QC issue), if not possible, just leave it.

IMO most watches have subtle quirks like this and if you start looking at close up pictures or through a loupe you will notice them. I am generally a perfectionist OCD type but I have learned to think of these type of things as part of the character of my watch, and once I did that I stopped noticing stuff like this.

Very good attitude.
I used to take a loupe to "scan" my new Rolex watches, but Rolex watches are handmade in many parts, it is not perfect. Don't magnify the "defects" and hurt yourself.

Finally I learned to throw away the loupe and enjoy wear my watches.

Particularly the O on oyster is terrible mate I wouldn’t want to keep it honestly not on for an expensive brand new watch

I would sent it back either to the AD or directly to RCS. Did you bought this watch new, recently? wish you noticed that upon delivery.

Yes it is a brand new piece. Unfortunately I was not able to notice it at the AD, only noticed it when I inspected it in detail at home.

I realise the 'hand made' argument - but surely the lettering isn't hand made?

It's amazing what brand loyalty will let companies get away with - a watch of this caliber shouldn't have such an obvious imperfection - no loupe needed - and through a computer screen we can all see it. In person this would be far more obvious to the naked eye. No one here should be saying this is acceptable. That's not the standard to which I think of when I hear 'Rolex'. And I wonder what items with similar small imperfections some of you would be quick to send back if it wasn't a Rolex.

That is piss poor quality on any watch particularity on a Rolex ! Its applied with a soft balloon that was dipped in a die with ink in it. Then pressed on to the dial. My sub and DS are perfect with a lope just checked. Give it back and demand a another watch.

Me as well. I think it looks fine and really isn’t an issue at all.

I would love to be in the shop when someone comes in complaining about this and demanding a new watch. The crap people come up with...

For what we spend on these things, there shouldn't be quality issues. Yes it's trivial and nit picking, but not unreasonable.

However, op is not going to get an exchange. A repair, probably, sent to rsc for a new face. And free polish.

Looks like something crafted and wonderful to my eyes. i see no 'problems', and instead it is something that is part of being crafted by humans.

For the dial I believe the text is hand applied with a stencil dipped in paint.

I switched to my MacBook, and I still don't see the problem.

Maybe I should get some windex?

Dials are flex printed with a rubber bladder similar to a thick balloon. Don't sweat the small stuff. It does not take any performance away from the watch. Relax & enjoy!
