Radiomir Suggestions & Opinions

I’ve been considering a Panerai for a while, and for me, a wire lugged Radiomir just speaks. If I am missing any model #’s for consideration, please inform me !

What I want :

) pre-owned, $5k-$6k range
) must be sandwich dial, black
) 45mm or 47mm
) manual wind, prefer in-house
) no date, small seconds acceptable
) screw down crown
) SS, no coatings

What I’ve found :

45mm

) 183, like, but ETA. Possible
) 190, really like, JLC movement definitely acceptable, but would stretch budget
) 210, like, but ETA. Possible

47mm

) 425/449, prefer 425, really like
) 232, like, but would stretch budget. Still haven’t determined what is “special edition” about it !

Am I missing any models ?

Based on your brief 425 spring to mind - which I see is on your list.

I prefer the 190 or the 232. Both are classic Panerai watches. Stretch your budget a little and get something special.

I keep reading that the 232 is a special edition, but how so ? Except for the gold hands, looks the same as any other two hand sandwich dial.

232 was made in limited numbers and the gold hands and slim case superb. Try and find one to put on and you’ll realise why it’s held in such high esteem. It’s the only Radiomir I’d have.

Sincere thanks for the info thus far !

I wasn’t aware the 232 had a slimmer case, but just researching further, it has a brown dial ........... dunno

The unique dial of the 425 has quite the draw to the eye & the JLC movement in the 190 is definitely attractive.

Don’t buy without trying. When you know......you just know.

232 is much thinner and wears much better than the in house 47mm Panerai base. Also the color of the dial on the 232 is perfect. It isn’t trying to hard and works perfectly.

Try them first before you decide...I was set to get a 232 until I tried it on my wrist and decided that it’s not for me (I have nothing against brown dial but I find the crown to be uncomfortable on my wrist...) while I don’t like how 346 and 384 sit on my wrist, I haven’t had a chance to try regular 190 (had a chance to try 198...)

424 Dial is really special. 183 is very solid. 190 smooth as silk, very handsome.

Regretfully, that’s not going to be possible considering my geographic area. While Charlotte is close and has a very active watch club, I’ve only noticed one Panerai in attendance. There are a couple of pre-owned dealers, but yet to find a Radiomir.

Think I’ve narrowed it down, in order, to the 190, 425, or the 183 should I give in to an ETA.

Thanks to all the information, as it is very helpful !

I had a 425 and thought it was cool! Did end up letting it go but it's a unique watch and easy to find.

have had various rads over the years...232, 339, 249..and have only kept the 190
the silky JLC movement is too special..
however, with the recent panerai pricing, these are all within your budget

Thanks for the information and opinions on my first Panerai choice !

I struggled between the 190 and the 425, but the unique dial, domed crystal, gold hands, and 47mm size won the day.

My first Panerai !

Looks great. Lots of strap options. I have a 424 and like a black strap w ecru stiching.

Looks good! If you like the PAM 232, it's definitely the next move. I had the 736 with green dial, and they are very similar. 8 Day Hand-Wind and is sick. Congrats on the 425!
