I'm on the hunt for a Pre-owned Rolex for my wife's 50th (she is worth new, but my bank account is not).

My buddy (BEN) insists that a Rolex is fake if the watch case/body has holes on the exterior for the watchband to attach. He says all are smooth with no holes on the outside to push in to remove the band (I lack watch lingo).

While searching pics online, I am finding 26mm Rolex's for sale with and without the holes. Majority are smooth, but some are popping up with holes and they guarantee that it is authentic.

Can anybody clear this up for us?

Thank you

You can get a Rolex with or without lug holes. Most of the older Rolex models have holes. Just because the watch has holes does not mean it is not authentic

I guess Rolex must have sold a bunch of fakes in its day

Welcome, and tell your buddy to join too, he'll learn a lot quickly

Many TRF members have spent decades gaining their knowledge base. Unless you are going to put in a lot of time, your best bet is to use a trusted seller that has been vetted by this forum.

Good luck.
Pretty much my point. There are fakes both with and without lug holes. Get with someone you can trust to buy your watch or learn enough to be self sufficient. Either way you'll reduce your chances of stepping into dangerous waters. Good luck with the present for your wife. The good news is that there are some bargains to be had in women's Rolex watches!!! Let us know how she loves her new watch.

Pics or it didn't happen.

You may want to look at 31 and 34mm as well. Just take your time and as we all agree > Buy the seller first. Happy Hunting.....
