I picked up this random-serial 14060m from Takuya in 2016. Warranty card is dated 2014. It's my first ever 14060-series Sub, although I've owned a 16600 Sea Dweller from new since 2005. While I love the SD with a passion (it's my 2nd-ever Rolex), and I've had no fitment or comfort issues with it whatsoever, I'm finding the ND Sub to be a genuine revelation of simplicity, symmetry, and less-is-more design. Super-happy with this watch!

My 2 liner was the first Rolex I ever owned. Bought it shortly after getting my first real job. Dreamed about owning a Rolex for years before.

It’s currently sporting a Yacht Master red second hand and a rubberB strap.

Of course original bracelet and second hand are retained and the watch will be returned to original condition when I’m ready.

But for now I’m really enjoying the modified look....

I have a 2 line sub on a rubber strap. It looks like all the 2 line pictures above surprisingly enough!!

A little history as to how I came to this watch. It’s been quite a journey for this incoming. As you all know I considered a Hulk. Loved the colour, but the cyclops really killed it and the creamy green bezel was meh. Oh and the fact I couldn’t even get on a list for one made it a no go.

I then debated getting another 114060. Trying to get the "list" was a tiresome bore. I didn't want to jump through hoops. Sure I missed the 114060, but I sold it for a reason. It’s an amazing watch. The best bracelet in the business, but the fat lugs mean it looks crap on anything other than the bracelet. I like straps alot hence moving it on.

Next up was the Sea Dweller SD4K. It’s an amazing reference! 5 digit proportions with modern engineering. The raised sapphire and minute hashes going round the whole bezel made it compelling. But.....the bezel is still very blingy and coupled with a grey market price of £10,000+ made it a no no.

Then I happened to pass through Burlington arcade in London one sunny Saturday afternoon and stopped to look in the window of the Vintage Rolex Shop. This shop is prohibitively expensive, but the selection is incredible! I’d always been wary of the “flimsy bracelet with tuna can clasp” claims made on this forum. What the hell! I had some spare time, so I went inside and tried on lots. I have to say they wear smaller than I thought. A big plus for me. Similar to the Seamaster 300 60th anniversary, but much thinner and lighter, even on bracelet. I tried on some Subs and GMT’s with a NATO and wow! So I then went on a research trip trying to learn all the tiny differences. It came down to me deciding the I wanted a watch that has a story and is rugged enough for everyday use including swimming, diving etc. This meant that a 5513 with acrylic crystal was a no no. Also I decided that the watch needed to have functional lume. I like the aesthetic of the creamy patina that tritium develops, but super luminova is what I need. Turns out that dials with “Swiss made” are super luminova coated. Great.

Next detail. Do I want 2 or 4 lines of text. Well my old 114060 had the 4 lines and to be honest I didn’t really mind, but having tried on some “2 liners” I decided it would be a 2 liner.

Next detail. Do I want the older 3000 movement or the 3135 which is in the 114060 that I previously owned. I decided the newer modified movement was what I wanted.

So I’ve been looking for a 14060m. There are so many examples on the market that have been polished to death. Leaving the lugs blunt, lacking chamfers, the crown guards polished away. Unpolished command a premium but I wanted it as original condition as possible. After an exhaustive search I managed to find one. It's had the lightest of polishes. All the details are super sharp. The bracelet has minimal stretch.

I bought a 14060m around 5 years ago, a 2002 model, back when they were just over half the price of a new 6 digit. Nice watch. Has taken many a bump. See them on lots of wrists, almost ubiquitous on the tube back when we commuted, but love it as a holiday watch with a rubber strap! Looks best with seawater glaze!

Funny until a few hrs back buyers were joked about being cheap for getting the no date. Which I was! Over time I preferred the balance. Now all my watches are no date !

Oops, forgot to state my 14060M story. Originally had an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ref. 2201.50. Said I’d never get a Rolex. Then, fell in love with Rolex and the Submariner. Looked at a 114060. Then, realized I needed the date function in my everyday life. So, picked up a SubC Date 116610. Still loved the Submariner, stumbled upon a BNIB 14060M from AD in 2019(!) and realized I couldn’t pass. Decided to stow it away until time was ripe in future to pass it down to my son or do something else. Almost 10 years since the Omega, I now own 5 Rolex watches and a Tudor BB 58, wife owns a Rolex (and a Cartier), and zero Omega!

Got a 2-line 14060 in Nogales, Arizona at a duty free store in '96 or early '97. Paid $1,900. At the time I wanted something different than my older brother so I opted for the no date version. I've had it ever since, and it's been with me on major adult life events. It's been serviced once and has never let me down. I picked up a Seiko "Black Monster" a few years later as a beater, or what to wear when I didn't want to "flex" on clients. I believe 14060 helped me establish rapport with a local AD.

Somehow the box, papers, and anchor have survived nearly a dozen moves around the US.

When I'm gone one of my sons will have it.

I love the simplicity of the two line version.

I’ve been to over 40 states (in the US), about 20 countries in Europe and many island nations in the Caribbean with this masterpiece.

For me, it is not a toy - it is a tool - And an indispensable one at that!

I’ve been through a lot of Rolex models and each multiple times lol. Overall I’ve settled with a 14060m Y serial 2 liner as my daily at the moment. Classic design, goes with everything, looks great on the bracelet, any strap and or a nato, 300m, sapphire and lug holes :) Can’t go wrong!
