Crowns....Applied or Painted ??

The Rolex crown is not only a Trademark, but a true icon for the brand in the world or horology.

The applied crowns have been around since almost the beginning, but I gotta admit, I prefer the painted look.

It just seems more professional to see the craftsmanship of a painted crown rather than just one glued in place..

Here are a couple of mine.....

Show us yours and tell us what you think .....

Applied:

Interesting, Larry. I always thought the sport models would look great with the applied white gold crown especially with the addition of white gold surrounds.

I luv my LV, the painted crown is just fine with me. But head to head...I think the applied is more substantial....great question Larry.

Can't vote coz i like sports watches with a painted crown. However, I like the thought of an extra bit of white gold on the dial

I think the applied looks more elegant.

The Rolex crowns are not painted Larry, they are screen printed onto the dials, so as far as craftsmanship goes there is none there sadly.

My sub has a painted crown, but I love the applied crown on my wife's lady DJ. I does seem more "substantial".....

Applied to me seems far better, more detail etc. But still in love with the painted ones in the Submariner, GMT Master II, Explorer II and so on. Think they would be even more stunning with a nice applied white gold crown like a member has pointed out indeed. So yes my vote goes for applied.

I prefer:

Applied Coronet on: Dress watches like the DJ and DD

Painted Coronet on: Sport's watches.

If I were to choose only ONE style, I would prefer the painted one.

I like them both. That being said, I would not want an applied Coronet on my GMT or Sub, same token I would not want a printed Coronet on my Daytona. Rolex made them just right!

I wish they would carve a crown out of a piece of diamond and stick it on the dial with rubies surrounding it!

For me the applied crown they use on the S/S Daytona is simply stunning.

I wonder if Rolex is accepting applications for dial painters.

It all depends on how the final look is, on the watch.

It'd be nice if they applied luminova to the crown.
