Because that's what's most important: convincing others that what you have is valuable and so, by derivation, are you. Poor sap.

Anything with a cyclops pretty much gives it away.

I voted Day-Date. I believe the cyclops plus a fluted bezel and YG are clearly a Rolex for the average Joe.

I really think it depends where you live. I my area I see sports models almost exclusively. Very few DJ running around here. At the tables in Vegas though, I tend to see many more DJ. My .02

Datejust and Sub are top two readily recognizable imo.

There are so many homages on the market today that most people can't tell what is a Rolex and what is not.

Before I got interested enough to start buying Rolex watches, I couldn't tell.

I was in San Deigo last month and wore my 16710 with pepsi insert, and I was surprised at how many folks correctly identified it as a Rolex. I was there for about four days and it probably happened eight times.

A guy in the street even correctly identifed it as a GMT, noting the "older style."

In NYC it rarely gets noticed.

Could just be a San Diego thing...

DJ, DD (Which the "average" person would not distinguish from a DJ), Sub Date, GMT.

Non-cyclops models are much less recognizable to the average "person on the street".

I think some of us confuse recognizability and frequency.
TT DJ is definitely more recognizable n the 'icon' in the eyes of the average joe.

This.

The Sub Date is the one that looks the most obviously "Rolex", it doesn't blend in with jewelry like a DJ and has a very large cyclops.

Agree with this. Fluted bezel/cyclops DJs on Jubilees and DDs on Presidents are what practically everyone knows.

Nothing else is close. A non-WIS, average Joe is as likely to mistake a Sub or GMT for a TAG as know it's a Rolex, even if you're talking about a Sub Date (much less a plain Sub) and brushed SS Oyster bracelets aren't out there spelling "luxury watch" to the masses who aren't into watches.

This is the right answer. Most every Rolex model has had the design used by so many Macy's brands that the untrained eye has no idea what they are looking at. The explorer II is one that I don't see ripped off quite as often

Find it funny that the GMT has no votes when it is identical to the sub from the perspective of Joe on the streets. Perhaps they could have been grouped in one category.

Yeah, especially when half the Subs don't have telltale Rolex cyclops and all GMTs do. Apparently some believe average Joe on the street "instantly recognises" a Sub yet fails to recognize a GMT LN. How does that work anyway?

Well, that's TRF polling results for you.

Overall for men and women I'd say DJ. Men under 40 might be the Sub. I was in an ADs recently and the guy had just started working there and didn't yet know all the models they stocked so the average Joe won't know any of them at all, only a few percent will have any interest to know a DJ from a Sub.
