Rolex datejust no serial #

Hello everyone I was gifted a oyster perpetual datejust from my father in law. I took the band off to find the serial number but there isn't one. The watch has been worn a fair bit over the years. Can serial numbers wear off? Any info would be appreciated.

They can wear off. Can you get a close look with a loupe?

You can usually tell if numbers have been worn off, or if there were never any numbers there at all.

Apparently your father in law isn't very happy you married his daughter since he gave you a fake watch and wants you to look stupid wearing it.

Datewheel, bezel, crown, hands, dial - everything is wrong, so yup, 100% fake.

Engrave it with "Thanks, but no thanks", put it in a nice wrapping paper, and put it under the tree

I remember my uncle having one of these crappy Chinese quartz fakes back in the late 80s. Looked so tacky and I couldn’t believe he wore it all the time.
