Royal Oak Sizing

Hi all,

I'm currently thinking forward to my next watch purchase come tax / bonus season next year. Unfortunately with AP only selling via boutiques, they two previous dealers in the bay area now no longer have any royal oaks to try on.

I've got a 6.75 inch, relatively flat wrist and currently have a GMT BLNR - which I find to be just about the perfect size. Was considering choosing the 15450 over the 15400, with the 15202 unfortunately outside of my budget (also prefer a seconds hand).

Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how the 15450 wears in comparison to a 40mm sub / GMT?

Best,
Will

I think the 15450 looks larger in pictures than it wears and will wear smaller than your GMT. 6.75” flat wrist is plenty large enough for a 15400 IMHO. You won’t go wrong with either though.

I have a similar sized wrist (not sure my exact measurement) and also have a BLNR. I’ve flirted with royal oaks on many occasions and have tried on the 15400, 15202 and 15450—size wise, I actually like the 15450 the most of the three. It does wear a little bit smaller than the BLNR I think, but I think the royal oak feels like a dressier watch and I prefer it a touch smaller. Note the first links on the bracelet protrude out (as opposed to falling straight down like on a Rolex oyster), which makes the watches feel and wear larger in my view (and leaves them feeling larger on the wrist than they look in photos IMO).

Here are some pics of my BLNR and the royal oaks, in case helpful:

Thank you both for the insight! Appreciate the pics mbalmz - I'm probably of similar thought to you to use the AP as a dressier watch and the 37mm looks great smaller as well.

happy to help—let me know if you pull the trigger! I’m sure I’ll end up making the move on that 15450 at some point and could always use the enabling.

my 15202 wears slightly bigger than 40mm rolexes, id imagine that a 15450 wears slightly smaller although I have never worn one.

The 15450 wears similar to a daytona. I have a 6.75 wrist but more rounded so it fits me perfectly.

I have both the Batman and 15202, wrist is 200mm, so fairly large. The Rolex wears larger (to me) than the RO, mainly due to its bulk and bezel... AP is actually the perfect size for me - smaller, slimmer, much more refined, you can sense it’s quality and exceptional case design. It’s of course the GMT times 3 when it comes to the price tag and I won’t make it my daily beater just yet as it is quite a scratch magnet so I only wear it to special occasions and after work events;) I tired 15400 as well but it was just too much in your face sort of look for me to like it, so I settled on 15202 and feel that’s much better watch overall and it will age much better than 15400 as well...

I also have a roughly 6.75 inch wrist and here is 39mm 15300 and 39mm 26300 wrist shot for your size reference. 39mm is like Daytona. 41mm is more like a 116610 Sub.

I have a similar wrist size and also had a blnr.. I currently have a 15400 and although it does fit slightly larger than the blnr, it’s nothing that bothers me and love the watch! I have not tried on a 15202, however.

Royal Oak Sizing

I have a 7" flat wrist and found the 15400 too big. The dial is just much larger and bezel is so thin, I felt it wore larger than 42mm offshores! Ended up with the 15300 (39mm). I had a BLNR and still have a Hulk, I find it wears just slightly larger than it but not by much.

I think the "15400 is too big" is overdone. I have a 6.5 wrist and it fits just fine. 15450 felt too small to me.

I beg to differ. The 15450 fits perfectly on my 6.5” wrist.

That’s why we have choices

Maybe but that's why there is the 15202 or 15300.

Completely agree. Choices are always good! And that looks great on you!

FWIW, from my personal experience, both 15400 and 15450 feels smaller in the flesh than they appear in photos.

Will, whoa, I did not know that the Palo Alto dealer no longer carries AP. That sucks as they have been great to deal with in the past!

I have a 6.5" flat wrist and the 15202 fits perfectly. 15400 is right on the border for me. Just depends on how you like to wear your watches. I'd recommend a trip to a boutique before buying.

I have a 6.75" wrist and found the 15450 wore awkward. I went with the 15400 instead. Doesn't feel too big for me.

Thanks - yeah I was a bit surprised but in reading the forums sounds like APs are now boutique only everywhere

Some guys prefer wearing a watch that’s not made for their wrist rather than a smaller size that fits better. Unless a 6.5 inch wrist is the same thickness as a pancake, a 15400 is too big.

I have same size wrist... the 15400 looks abnormally large and awkward on me. 15450 fits well but for me it was a little too thick for me to pull the trigger

I'm also in the bay area. What AP AD do you think you'll try? And do you think they'll have it to buy? Haven't heard good things about the Beverly Hills AD.

I know it's far away from the bay area but I've had great experience with the Bal Harbour boutique. Not to mention, Florida is a great place to visit during the winter.

Pulled the trigger and bought a white 15450 online. Also traded in my BLNR and got a Tudor Black Bay 41mm In-House as well. Will post pics once I get them!

Here it is! Glad I went with the 37 vs the 41, since I prefer slightly smaller watches for more dressy wear (which the AP will be). That said, I totally see why the 39mm still is so coveted. Would be the perfect all purpose size.

I also get why AP is in the holy trinity now. The finishing on the RO is unbelievable. It definitely catches and reflects light like nothing else

Also OCwatchguy is highly recommended - pleasure to deal with on this trade / 2 watch deal
