Tudor models with dates have a decent size display with numbers large enough to be easily seen without a cyclops. Also, the date window on many Tudors are placed more appropriately, further out on the dial.

On my D-Blue, the date window is too close to the center and the numbers are small. Same movement is in my Sub and with the cyclops, the date is fine. The entire watch, including the movement, was designed for a cyclops. If Rolex had made a specific movement for the DSSD, the calendar wheel would likely be larger, with a window placed closer to the edge of the dial, with larger numbers.

Ya, I see what yo are saying now. Personally I like the no cyclops look and can read the date fairly easily on my SD4K.

Not a fan of the blue dial on the Deepsea - much prefer the all-black version.

That said, my favourites are the SD43 with the red lettering and its immediate predecessor, the SD4K ceramic.

Well I’ve owned a DSSD, SD4k, a 666, ands 12660. SDK4 is my favorite to wear but the 666 is the most special.

Very lucky you didn't let that go, i'm sure you would have regretted if you did but the SD43 works better for me.

Agree 100%.

Had an SD43, sold it after a week or so. Got myself one of the greatest watches ever made. SD4K.

According to dealers, the new SD with red letters is now more desirable than the james cameron

My original AD did not have a sub in the poor persons case when I started shopping (and I was not shopping out of the PM case-and they never offered to let me try those on). I wanted to love the deep blue, but could not get past how huge it sat on my arm. They also had a 4K as a trade in-but it did nothing for me either (accept give me a better idea of a Subs size). Dealer #3 did not have the Hulk I was looking for, but pulled a SD43 out of the back for me to try on. I was not all that interested, but had the time so I tried it on anyway-and really liked it.

Poor watch, it came home with me-but my wife said OK, it is your birthday present. It has been in the safe for 4 months now. 2 more months till my birthday.

Got my Hulk from them a month latter-a mistake. It is kind of my special occasion watch and for the most part sits besides the SD43. Also on list for a Pepsi Jubilee-probably should sell the Hulk, but might still warm up to it. FWIW afraid to visit the dealer. Fear a root beer would be instock and I would have poor impulse control

For me, the SD43 has been perfect. My Deep Sea is a bit top heavy and doesn't get much wrist time. I sold my SK4K before I got the SD43.

i vote for SD43... but that is a real beauty on the left

-note the date placement on 116600 vs 1665DR.... thats the main drawback of the sd4k (and dssd) for me.

-love the domed saphire and the dial of the DSSD JC... but the "original gas escape valve" ring kills it for me.

Good thing Rolex corrected it on SD43 by placing it on the caseback

I love my 116600 and would really like to add a 16600 at some point, like the vintage style of the 5 digit one compared to mine.
