I have had a 16600 for many years (drilled lug version), got a SD4000 when it was released, and got a SD43 when it became available.

All 3 watches get regular wrist time, because I like them for different reasons.

If I could only keep one, it would probably be the 16600 because the proportions are perfect for my wrist and it is so comfortable to wear. My aging eyes do appreciate the cyclops on the SD43 though!

I could not get used to the cyclop on SD43 so sold it.

Overall I still prefer 16600 but 116600 is a close second

Same. I've been chasing the best diver for years and still have most of them. Thought the undisputed best was the the Omega PO 8900. I had a chance at a DSSD from my AD but passed on it - just didn't grab me. The SD43 though checks every box for me.

The first subs were considerably smaller than the (almost) 41 mm they are now. Daytonas used to be 37 mm.

Is your opinion based on 3 mm and a glued on date magnifier?

If all things being equal (price / condition) I would love a double red, then any other vintage piece... After that I would say the D-Blue, then maybe the SD43... But I've never seen the SD43 in person, and would rather no cyclops if it was possible...

Scott , I’m not against the SD43 given that I might
one day have one on my wrist ...
But Aesthetically speaking it has evolved so from
a historic point of view it’s not the same . That said
Rolex usually does changes/improvements
for the better . I’m hoping to eventually see and try
on a SD43 since I have decent size wrists it should
look great ...

Ahh! the old "asthetics" argument

Could that not apply to many references? I know you're not against it Mario, however its arguably closer aesthetically to the first Sea dweller than the Sub C is to the first Sub.

Is this all about the "c" word? It can't be size, surely, as the current Sub is circa 3mm larger than the original (in real terms, despite what the specs may say)

SD43 if you dont care. 4K if you are a true SD fan. Many consider the 4K the last true SD

I had the SD43. As much as I loved it, I rarely wore it. I traded it in for a Smurf and am very happy I did since I wear my Smurf more than any other watch. Since I have such a good relationship with my AD, I bought the 116660 JC for a friend of mine who couldn’t get one at retail. I wore it out of the store and wore it the next day until I begrudgingly had to give it up. For the 24 hours I wore the watch, I was completely enamored with it. I’ve been spending all of my time looking to buy the 126660 since it was released at Basel. The watch is just mesmerizing. I’m patiently waiting for the call from my AD. Until then, I’m just peeping out all the lucky ducks here on TRF who have this amazing reference. I have the opportunity to buy the old reference, but the new one has much better dimensions and an upgraded movement. I’ll just wait.

And here was my old SD43. I really loved the watch and if I was wealthy, I would have kept it. But I’m a working man and it had to be traded ☹️
