What do you think

Would you trade your Patek 5905-010P (black dial) for F.P Journe chronometre souveraine 40mm rose gold?

Definitely not, as I prefer the 5905 aesthetically. Posting here before @enjoythemusic enters with his usual spiel about Patek being inferior to the independents.

Straight trade no. But i think it would depend on what else I had in my collection and collection goals etc.

Is FPJ a really good watch? That’s the question. I’m sorry people keep saying FPJ as an outstanding independent but other than the CB (and that’s just average tbh), I don’t really take the fancy of FPJ. Independents wise MB&F and Rexhep/Akrivia - The RRCC is sex on the wrist!

Let the pictures speak for themselves!

I think the 5905 in platinum offers much more than a basic CS in rose gold. It's not really a comparison.

You get annual calendar, chronograph and full platinum case. While the CS is beautiful but is a basic 3 hander. This is coming from someone that owns multiple Journes and Pateks by the way.

I would choose the 5905P and try to add the CS. A more apples to apples would be the perpetual calendar or Centigraphe vs 5905.

I would say that FPJ are great watches at their retail prices and so are Pateks- the 5905 is incredible value to me. Rexhep/Akrivia is amazing too but they are a micro brand. MB&F is a different - I would throw in Romaine Gauthier and Gruebel as well as Kari in the conversation- however I think OP is looking for watches in the $40k-$60k range and something more classic/mainstream?

Personally I really enjoy my journes alongside my Pateks.

Not really a fair fight. If it’s straight trade I say hell no and I don’t even really like the 5905 but there’s no denying it’s a solid watch.

A couple years ago you could have traded a 5905P for a resonance lol

I guess a new acronym is due for the PP section…IBE?

Frankly my dears, many large brands can be “one upped” by small ones in one regard or another.

But I would not do that trade if was me…just my

And that’s because of a long-term, abiding personal choice rather than for technical or aesthetic reasons. I’ve been the smaller and better, yet slower, independent route.

For me, I learned that I like larger infrastructure and market presence for service.

Is that before or after he talks about how amazing his Octofinissimo is for the money. I will pre-empt him too with a pic of mine

Seriously though the 5905 is delicious. I am hopefully getting mine soon. I prefer the RG version but the Pt is super cool too. I would not do the trade.

Absolutely not. I've not worn my 5905 yet but love it.

For someone who hates the Nautilus, he spends a lot of energy and time writing about it.
